Yup. It's the main problem I face with my standard 4-2-3-1. I want my wingers to be able to track back, and sit as ML/MR, more defensive when we're out of possession, etc. There's ways to almost replicate that, but nothing to truly make them do what you actually want in that case.
Apparently FM13 will have a whole new/upgraded Engine, so it'll be interesting to see what they do.

The only way to do that is to make them supporting wingers, which defeats the purpose of pushing them so high up the park.

Apparently FM13 will have a whole new/upgraded Engine, so it'll be interesting to see what they do. Set the wingers to man-mark with tight marking. They'll track whatever people you set them to. So in a 4-2-3-1 against 4 at the back tactics you'll want them tracking the fullbacks.

Formation I'm using. Taking Cues from the current Barcelona, and a blog I found who wanted to create a tactic that basically dominates possession and plays as many passes as possible.

Maybe change Valoti to a Trequartista role so that he's running past and one-two-ing your deep-lying forward.

Decided to start a new save with Sydney FC. Won the A-League 2 seasons in a row. Decided I'd leave after I then won the ACL. Got offered the PSV job after they sacked their manager with them in 10th after 17 games. Have won 3 and Drawn 1 since I got here and have made sure of qualification as group winners in the Europa League. Have decided to go all nationalistic and only signing Dutch players or players of Dutch heritage. It's gong to fail miserably I know
Now for the climb up the table.

Edited by sydneycroatia58: 19/4/2012 05:39:03 PM Just stick 2/3 scouts on Ajax's youth team, you'll be fine.

Can't take too much credit for it. That blog I mentioned came up with it. But his aim was get as many passes and as much possession as possible. He ended up with the DLP (In his case Schweinsteiger) reaching 250+ passes at one stage.
I just want to see if I can get it working as a fully capable tactic.

As a tactic it makes sense. But a lack of width could get you in trouble without having incredibly athletic fullbacks.

Played 4 games so far. 2 Wins, a Draw and a Loss. The loss was a heavy 4-0 loss to Mexico. The lowest percentage possession we've had has been 70%. Main problem I'm noticing is the fullbacks. Even set to tight man marking the opposition strikers, they still sit too wide, which allows diagonal through balls from the oppo, that end up in 2/3 v 1 situations for my CB. That was the killer v Mexico, they had 2 wing backs who were just swinging it forward over the top and my CB couldn't cope. Thinking of dropping one of the AMC's back to make it a 4-2-1-2-1. Gives us more defensive cover at the very least.

Maybe implement a sweeper to mop up and counter those diagonal balls?

That's what the CB is meant to be though. He's not meant to be marking the strikers, he should be sitting back behind the line, while the two anchor men and the Fullbacks cover the opposition front line. But the Anchor Men seem to push forward too much, and the Full Backs sit too wide.

The anchormen are going to be sitting between the lines, they're going to inevitably sit up leaving you exposed at CB.
Maybe change the CB's instructions to Limited Defender - Cover and see what happens.

Loaded a few leagues around Europe, started unemployed with Sunday League rep. Appointed pretty quickly by Khabarovsk in the Russian First Division.
First match was a Russian Cup match against Rubin Kazan. I wasn't expecting much, but we wet out and smashed them 4-0. Rubin's previous fixtures in their league, and I played against a full-strength side.
Halfway through the season, my team is at the lower end of the table in 13th place, 20 points behind the leader. I'm confident I can get the team into the championship group.
Got a small squad and no transfer budget, but a decent amount left in the wage budget so once the transfer window opens I'm looking at bringing in a few loans and free agents.

I've found that the pentagon challenge becomes difficult after the first win because your rep increases too much unless you start in africa.

When the challenge is done properly you start in Africa a lot of the time anyway, or some no name club in Eastern Europe.

I started out with Victory, won the ACL, moved to Boca and won the Libertadores on my second attempt before then realising that my rep and pay grade was too big to manage any of the smaller continents and joining Bayern Munich for a season before giving up on the challenge.

Quote:oh ok , did you start unemployed? and was the Librertadores harder to win than Acl? Yeah, I started unemployed. But this was back in FM07, so it was easier to get a job in the A-League with no rep or history. The Libertadores was definitely harder to win.
