Good contacts in the football world, not much else from a business sense though. I thought he would have been better on the coaching staff.

It's a quality move - and a nice 'V'-sign to all those who believe that a 'mono-ethnic' club like Olympic can only possibly ever ever accept Greeks into the fold.

Now, whilst we're here... What are Olympic (with or without Bozza) doing to expand their support base in Sydney?

I think it's taken a few years for the old clubs to come to terms with what has happened, and to realise that the only way we will get back into the mainstream (and it's still a long shot) is to build ourselves into a viable commercial option for the A-League. If they think they can make money off us, they'll soon get interested.
I hope Olympic, South, and all the other old clubs - including non-'ethnics' like the Strikers, can continue to operate, build themselves up and JOIN (not replace) the A-League franchises in an ever expanding national competition that can represent every single football lover in the country.

top article this one Of course YOU would say that this BLOG is a great article. Why on God’s earth would the FFA install Sydney Rovers in the 2011/2012 competition AND start an A-2 League the same year?? Or within 5 years for that matter. Is this the same FFA that recently went on record as saying that a FA cup style competition (a comp that would be cheaper to run then a national second division) is not feasible for the foresable future? If you are going to make stuff up, at least make it remotely creditable. I wish no ill harm onto Sydney Olympic, a great club with a great history, but the sudden wave of moronic (young) Olympic supporters who are harping on about a revolution (by the way, these people may need to look up the exact meaning of a ‘revolution) is certainly starting to leave a very bitter taste in a lot of peoples mouths. Pity, as only several years ago, Olympic had done great work to attract supporters from outside their traditional base…seems to be all being undone now with a huge surge back towards over the top nationalistic pride and arrogance.

solympic wrote:how can fans pumping their club be a pity or leave a sour taste in others mouth unless others are the ffa, rivals or anti-football The "pumping their club up" bit is excellent, its the A-League bashing that leaves the sour taste (although, once again, I acknowledge that the majority of the A-League bashing comes as a response to the occasional anti-Olympic "move with the times" comment). Keep on pumping them up, just play it careful on the Aussie forum - especially with the comments about threads that need to be moved - I can assure you we (the mods) are doing our very best to keep things even handed.

I believe its a condition of entry to the Asian Champions League that competing nations must have promotion/relegation systems in place. The A-League was given special dispensation due to being a new competition but I believe that runs out in 2012, which would probably be why this date keeps coming up as a 'rumoured start date' for the 2nd division. I suspect that the FFA have been making a lot of noise about this in order to convince FIFA (re the world cup bid) and AFC (re the ACL) that its a genuine plan - but that they will seek another 5 year 'pass' to give them more time, which would take us through to 2017... Lowy has said, "Promotion and relegation is the lifeblood of the game, so we can't ignore it and we won't ignore it" and "By the time the (2018) World Cup comes there will be promotion and relegation."

Lowy has said, "Promotion and relegation is the lifeblood of the game, so we can't ignore it and we won't ignore it" and "By the time the (2018) World Cup comes there will be promotion and relegation." And I believe I have explained this a few times. MANY AFC nations do not have promotion / relegation (most notably Sth Korea) and have no inclination to change this. The AFC are not going to start to kick nations such as Korea and many of the Middle Eastern nations out of the ACL, it would be a huge financial fuck up I get Lowy's comment and it’s a very good point raised by you, but it's nothing more then lip service, at least in the mid-term. As I said, I have no ill feeling towards former top flight clubs such as Olympic, Sth Melbourne etc, but solympic/OLYMPICMAS/Alex’s penchant for making up complete crap to strengthen non arguments is really grating. As you said, pump up your club, a strong state league with good crowds would be a huge benefit to football in this country, but making up rubbish, posting club house rumours and generally denigrating anything that goes against his opinion (such as dropping insults about Jewish people etc) is just showing how far some of these clubs (more importantly, their supporters) have to go. It’s the reason most of these clubs starting bombing in the 90’s and early 2000’s. It’s not 1950’s Australia any more people. If they have not noticed, it’s even starting to push traditional allies away from their argument.
