Hayes wants Edensor Park to be fortress
17.03.10 16:57

Sydney United ace midfielder Steve Hayes (right) battles Sydney Olympic's Matthew Mayora during their round 2 NSW Premier League clash this year
Sydney United’s highly rated midfield ace Steve Hayes has admitted that should Sydney United Sports Centre become a fortress then the club will go close to securing the Championship for 2010.

Speaking to Football NSW, Hayes made it clear that it will be all hands on deck when they meet his former club in the South Coast Wolves at the Sydney United Sports Centre this Sunday with only one motive in mind, collecting the three points.

“I know they’ve restocked their squad for 2010 and they’ve bought a completely new bunch of players as well as management there.

“They’ve been hard to beat this year but I am not too concerned how they do this weekend, it is more how we go this Sunday.

“We lost two vital points last weekend and we don’t like that at our home ground so we’re gunning to play good football and take the three precious points.

“We need to win as many matches as possible at home, we want it to be a fortress making it hard for opposition to take points.”

The 25-year-old was on every NSW Premier League club’s wish list but it was Sydney United that won the race in signing the talented midfielder who has settled in rather well with the Reds.

“It has taken a while but we’ve all gelled together as a squad and I have personally adapted to my new surroundings with the club and have established a good connection with my new teammates.

“I know we are improving as a team every week and thus far we’ve won 2 and drawn 1 so we are hoping to win as many matches as possible, especially at home, to please our fans and the club.

“There are big expectations so it is up to us players to deliver so we’re of course going for the Premiership, Championship and McDonalds Cup.”

Currently residing in Wollongong, Hayes makes the hour and a half trek to Edensor Park close to four times a week but it is something that the blonde haired assassin has gotten quite used to following his time with the Wolves.

“To be honest the trip from Wollongong to Sydney isn’t all that bad.

“I’m originally from Canberra and I used to drive from there to Wollongong so you could say that I was well trained before I made the move to Sydney United for the trip.”

Hayes is banking on a good solid season with Sydney United which the hope of gaining a bigger opportunity as a professional footballer whether it be in the Hyundai A-League or playing abroad.

“I am trying to play as high as I possibly can whether it is in the A-League or overseas, it something I am striving for.

“This cannot be achieved unless I have a good year in the NSW Premier League and I feel that being with Sydney United, this could happen.

“I am around some great players and the club is treating me well so if an opportunity arises from this I will be very grateful.

“But first things first, I am putting all my drive and motivation into winning the elusive Premiership and Championship.”

Sydney United tackle the South Coast Wolves this Sunday at Sydney United Sports Centre with kick-off set for 6pm.

Don't post articles which do not have links to the original. Poor form child.

No worries mate. Don't really have to worry about solympic posting bullshit stories like this. That story doesn't have enough grammatical errors and no swearing to be him:lol: .
