A mate of mine is doing some research amongst young players and their parents in order to formulate new coaching tools and products.

His interest is specifically with regard to areas of youth coaching which YOU feel are currently lacking.

Please let me know if you have 5-10 minutes to fill in a questionnaire.

All assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers folks.

Son has yet to start (he is only 4 ;) ) but if he is also insterested in the views of people looking to have training provided to their children and what the focus they want to see is then I would be happy to help out as well.

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is its not just about football.

The biggest problem I have with youth coaching in Australia is the fact that at the junior levels you get coaches who have never played the game and who don't know a thing about coaching. I know from my experience in my local comp you get coaches who come in and just look for the players who are the biggest or the fastest and treat the kids who may not be the best physically but have the tecnique, and then you get coaches who aren't even willing to acknowledge technique.

I know from coaching my sisters AA Ladies team. They aren't the biggest group of girls but playing football wise are the best in the comp. It's just a shame they get over run by teams who are taught to be overly physical from a very young age.

That being said I also hate this idea that at a young kid we should be taking kids who are able to beat a whole team and score. I personally would rather a kid who can play football and can bass the ball and read the game than a player who can dribble thriugh the whole team and is a hog.

Only 4? Get him out there, man. He needs to be kicking a ball around by now! ;)

I'm sure he's interested in what everyone wants from coaching products. Just miss out the questions regarding what you're unhappy with.

Drop me a PM with your email address on and I'll send the survey over to you. Same to you SydCro.
