An interesting aside to the conversation -

I'm not sure if it's nationwide or just in Victoria, but the rules here require that all state league clubs be member owned - private ownership is outlawed. Whilst in order to be in the A-League businesses need to be privately owned.

It seems strange to me that those running the game would believe that one system is ideal for the A-League but wrong, whilst another is suited to clubs outside the A-League... Surely, what's good for one is good for the other, and vice versa.

So - would the members sell up to Makris? I can see how it would be tempting - but I can't see it happening.

If I remember correctly Makris tried to buy a majority interest in SMFC as well, only to walk away (or be pushed, can't recall which).

John Ilhan tried to buy SMFC a couple of times toward the end of the NSL (if I remember correctly), but ultimately was sent packing.
