If the "people" wanted to hear all about NSWPL then the crowds would be rivalling the A-League crowds. Even Gold Coast got more than all the NSWPL teams.

I think when you say "people" you mean you and your handful of mates that go watch Olympic. Its your local team, good on you, so I'm sure your local paper and its website cover Olympic issues.

You can't expect a business like 442 to dedicate half their mag on NSWPL and its teams/players when compared to the national competition and international competitions, the interest is next to none for such a niche market.

edit: Oh yeah. Kevin Airs has responded to your comments and has given you a clear cut answer. Theres nothing else left to discuss here except to hear you say the same thing over and over with no evidence bar your fanboi-ism.

You are an idiot. Have you not yet realised that 442 is a business? It is here to make money, not be a charity. If you had the option of spending $100k in a year to make a return of $1,000 (in other words a loss of $99k) would you do it? If the answer is yes then you are not just an idiot but a detriment to the human race.

Actually technically the NSWPL and VPL are not the 2nd divisions. They aren't promoted or regulated into the A-League.

i think we wasting out time trying to explain and educate you.

even if 442 were to write those articles themselves, it would still get the same hits. no one opens an article because of who writes it, people take interest in an article if the topic is of interest to them.

as explained 442 has a limited budget and cannot pour all their resources into the state league. if they put more into the state leagues, then some area will have to take a hit and what do you suggest, a-league? world cup? epl?

we all happy to support the state leagues, but you need to realise that football is not a major sport in this country. football is a growing sport and we need to still win fans over and get a supporter base. a lot of fans who go to a-league games do so out of interest to see what football is all about, not because they love the game or know much about it.

i think once the interest grows and fans have nothing to do in the off season, they will start to look at football to watch outside of it. 442 can only do so much to promote the statea leagues on a limited budget.

you are welcome to talk about the state leagues and whatever you like, but just do it in the right sections. the state league should be doing more to promote itself if it is really missing out on fans.

it seems your anger is not for 442, but for the FFA and a-league. Just because your team did not get selected in the A-league, you making an issue. S Olympics time will come, but in the meantime, dont expect others to do Olympics bidding for them.

People are attracted to the magazine courtesy of international players such as Ronaldo and Messi, as well as Socceroos like Tim Cahill and Mark Schwarzer, and (to a lesser extent) HAL players like Hernandez and Culina.

These are the players that are known by the wider audience. So, these players sell magazines. It's just like marquee players. Robbie Fowler gets bums on seats. Chris Coyne does not. Harry Kewell sells magazines. Luka Glavas does not.

If you want comprehensive coverage of the State Leagues (and more specifically, Olympic), you have one option - Start up your own magazine, employ some staff, and cover the games yourself! Unfortunately, as KA stated, FFT cannot afford to do this, as they have an obligation to cover a vast array of material.

Oh I hear MetroStars is on top of the Super League table. Closely followed by Adelaide City and Adelaide Galaxy.

It's still too early to say, but I think Adelaide City will rise up and win the comp.

Just to throw my 2c in... If you go to England and read the UK version of 442, or any national football publication, or any of the major football forums, etc., you'll see very very little coverage of anything below the CCC. Even CCC coverage is limited to sides who've made a name from playing in the EPL and then collapsed, or sides battling to get into the EPL.

Thus, even as a supporter of a state league side, I really can't get upset about the lack of coverage. Stories about players we haven't heard of mean very little to us - thus we don't read them - thus... No sales, wasted bandwidth, etc.

Just to repeat a comment from the start of the thread - "i seriously hate the fact use are bagging out state league teams and our quality of being a league, and i hate the fact state league supporters bagg out A-league fans"... I've had this out with friends at SMFC, and I've no doubt that I'll continue to have it out with them - for all my dislike of the way the league was set-up, and the way certain clubs were excluded (and continue to be), ANYONE who supports a football team - whether it's an old-school club, or a bright new franchise, whether it's in Europe and a century old, or in North Queensland and a year old... EVERYONE has the same value to football as the next supporter. I don't get the Gay League thing, just as I don't get the GAY-F-L crap.

So I repeat my signature - TOGETHER, let's build this game.

But in the off-season, as well as rumours and innuendo about the A-League clubs, it's good to remind people that "hey, football in Australia is all year round!" Just because the A-League is over, doesn't mean you can't see some good round ball action on the weekend.

understandably so, but is that not the role of those running the league or the fans who so highly claim that the state league needs attention, to go out there and promote it. i think 442 does what they can.

ive seen ads for the Qld state league in their magazine before as well as for the sydney state league. 442, like KA says, have a limited budget and therefore cannot focus all attention on the state laegue especially in the off season with the world cup coming up.

No, they wouldn't and we know this because we had a season of giving first rate coverage to the state leagues in the magazine. We didn't sell one single extra copy.

People who follow Olympic are interested in Olympic stories...but no-one else is. And likewise with every single other team.

We'd LOVE to put a reporter on every state league side and fill the website with the latest gossip, but guess what? We can't afford it. That's the reality.

So we prioritise and focus on where there is most interest, most reward for our efforts - and that's the A-League and the Socceroos.

And what are we going to fill the website with this winter? Are you serious?

this is where i disagree. the A-league is the flaghsip competition for football in Australia. Its the competition that is in the media spotlight. how do we expect to give mass media coverage attention to staet league when we in a struggle to get proper coverage for our flagship league. this is not the uk where loyalties and where you from will automatically mean supporting of the local state teams.

we dont have big enough fan bases, we still trying to build them and win people over. now im not saying that state league is crap, but we more likely to win people and fans over by covering the likes of robbie fowler than covering a state league game. we need to first make sure that the a-league is getting the coverage and respect that it deserves.

maybe if this happens, people will grow to love the sport more and start paying attention to state league football. state league football at the moment is gra ss roots football. unfortunately, we may not like it like this but that is the case. due to this i can see a grass roots football session. you can go ahead and post all the state league stuff in there, you have been given free reign.

i also see grass roots football getting a space in the magazine. it may not be front page stuff, but its a hell of a lot more than what state league used to get 5 years ago. we cant expect to throw everything into state league at the moment. as the fans grow, so will the intrest in state leagues.

it will take time, but thats the point of such a crusade.

Kevin Airs you comment is so refreshing to find out that people like you run massie media outlets for the sport.

What are you going to talk about while the a-league is on holidays?

Why cant you understand that to improve the game we need to give as much media on the local game as possible so if people are interestd in the state league then of crose the a-league will get double the hits!

People cannot follow competitions when their is no news on these competitions, run important and interesting articles on state leagues and watch the views they will get.

You talk about the 64 and 57 hits yet mate you must understand that these articles are copied and pasted for exampke from fnsw website - so ofcourse people dont want second rate news.

How many hits did the south melbounre BJS stadum get and how many hits did the genc versus marando article get???

We will not buy your magazine if you dont talk about the things we want to read about champion.

FWIW I don't give a toss if state league threads appear in the Australian Football forum. IMO that is where they belong, but the forum descriptions and guidelines were set up before I was online editor.

However, what I do care about is dickheads clogging up the Australian forum with crap, and solympic, you simply spout crap like a badly plumbed sewer.

Just as yet another example, your Olympic match is in the NSWPL review right here http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/125908,nsw-premier-league-round-6-review.aspx in your very own state league section. That review also has the latest league table and all the scorers.

We were also at the Marconi match and filed several stories from there, plus marked South Melbourne BJS farewell, but simple logistics says we cannot cover state league matches in person unless every single registered football player in the country starts buying the magazine to pay for expanded coverage.

Demand whatever you like - but until you and all your "ultra" pals start buying the magazine, none of it is going to happen. We have limited resources and have to spend it where the most interest lies.

State league is low on our list of priorities - the interest is so high, a grand total of 64 people have read the NSWPL weekly round-up this week, while just 56 read the VPL wrap.

Why should we expand our coverage when so few read what's already there? It's not anti-NSL or anti-ethnic bias - it's simply focusing on what gives us the best return for our extremely limited money.

For every Sydney Olympic story we run, someone from Marconi will get upset. For every Sydney United story we run, someone from Bonnyrig White Eagles will get upset. For every NSWPL story we run, someone from the VPL will get upset. And then there are the QLD, SA, WA leagues to upset...

It is the same reason the NSL was set up and the same reason the A-League was set up. National competitions earn mainstream national coverage. Local competitions don't.

Behaving like an idiot as solympic does will not get you anywhere with us or anyone else in the professional media, and it gives the mods the perfect excuse to stick by the forum descriptions and move state league threads in grassroots.

I agree with him; "State Leagues" should at least feature in the forum name. I can see why users would post State League news in the AF. I don't know about having an entirely new sub-forum though. Maybe the title could just be changed to "State Leagues & Grass Roots".

That's what I mean though. It's just a name. Everyone here knows State League discussion goes in there, it's not really going to change much.

I too would like to see a little bit more state league coverage on here, but for fuck's sake will you just stop referring to it as a 'genocide' in your illiterate, crap-talking ways. Every time you get on your little grammatically impaired soapbox the state league looks that little bit more stupid, and we get that little bit further away from decent coverage.

Grow a pair and try to communicate like a coherent human being.

You get the reviews and previews here: http://au.fourfourtwo.com/newslist.aspx?CIaNCID=79

I'd like to see a little bit more than that, but you won't get that with cries of a revolution which basically consists of you, a couple of other crackpots, and a tumbleweed.
