Jardel had been out of the big time for a couple of years by the time he showed up here - Kanu is still getting game time in the EPL. No worries about his fitness levels.

And indeed Gooner4life 8, Miron and co were uttering Kanu's name (Along with Sun Jihai I recall) about the possible Marquee (And Asian) players they might try to secure. But ofcourse then GCU signed Culina and no further talk about it. Then again - 'I think' Kanu was even speculated to be a Guest stint possibility at GCU, but again pretty much baseless, wishful, rumours and more just part of the inflated hype Clive and Miron were trying to create for their debut season (tangent: Hype not supported by the ground work at the local level as we've learned in hindsight).

If Glory/Sage can manipulate their squad to the degree that they can fit Fowler in, as they're obviously interested in his services too, then...

Kanu to lead the line Sydney FC? With the more mobile Brosque and Bridge alongside, as too a classy #10 behind like Nick Carle or some South American or European even. That's both exciting for crowds and just scary for A-League opponents.


Sydney FC aside, Glory already have a Marquee, though again, Sage and co are SOMEHOW trying to entice Fowler over - So if Fowler goes to Sydney, then maybe Sage could try to squeeze Kanu in?

The other clubs either aren't in the financial position and/or don't tend to sign marquees anyway. And Victory have Archie locked in as their marquee, though again, Kanu at Victory would be interesting and could re-energise the fan base there. TBH I've been thinking Archie is well due to be shifting to a non-marquee contract now, because Victory can and should have the ability to draw their own Fowler/Kanu -esque marquees and given their problems upfront, Kanu could be their man, on and off the park.

I'd rule out Heart, because they have Aloisi now (Aloisi and Kanu is one slow pairing and less opportunity for younger, more mobile strikers like Ibrahim, Babalj and co) and I'd suspect if their use their marquee spot, it will be on a different kind of attacking player, like a #10.

Victory are still looking for a replacement target man to take Allsopp's place - Kanu would be awesome.

As for Archie Thompson already being there - Archie is probably the lowest paid marquee in the league, a little shuffling here and there, off load a couple of 'fringe' first teamers and replace them with hopeful youngsters and they could probably squeeze Archie under the cap freeing up his marquee spot and bringing in a big name. I think they'd possibly have more to gain than most because the city has already demonstrated a willingness to turn up in large numbers when excited.
