Quote: Now Lowy wants Crystal Palace DANIEL LANE April 18, 2010 FOOTBALL Federation Australia boss Frank Lowy wants to buy struggling English club Crystal Palace, tribalfootball.com reports. The Sun-Herald reported last week that Lowy had a report compiled on Leeds United in January. However, Leeds United chairman Ken Bates launched a blistering attack on Lowy - who co-founded the Westfield shopping centre group and is one of Australia's richest men - saying a Westfield project in nearby Bradford had "buggered" that town's centre. The $529 million development halted during the economic downturn. Tribalfootball.com reported that Lowy was poised to buy Palace, who are battling to beat relegation into League One. "Palace are currently in administration and reports this week suggested interest in the Championship club was drying up," the report said. "However, London sources have told tribalfootball.com that Lowy is ready to buy Palace. ''Lowy was linked with a move for Leeds United last week. However, it's understood Palace, under administration, are the bargain price club he is eyeing off." Lowy did not respond to an invitation to comment. http://www.smh.com.au/sport/football/now-lowy-wants-crystal-palace-20100417-slfx.html

They have produced some good talent of late, but a few have been bought. Hopefully they can become stable enough to reap more benefit from these such players (Bostock, Moses, etc).

It's funny that at a time when we have so many supporters saying that they are now supporting A-League sides rather than looking at Europe, and that those who continue to look at Europe rather than supporting the A-League are being disloyal to 'our' game, etc., that we have the big boss of the FFA about to invest more cash in an English club than he ever has in the A-League.
Make no mistake - there is no money to be made from owning a CCC club. Costs are high, the only hope of a return in promotion which pushes costs up even higher. Surely the money would be better invested in our own competition. Frank - rather than using the FFA's money to prop up a couple of franchises, how about taking 100% ownership of one of the struggling franchises... Or better still - invest big time in Canberra, Tasmania, or Darwin to launch the next phase of expansion.

However, you've used a capital at the start and found a question mark for the end, so I can't be certain... No capitals within the body of the sentance, so it's touch and go... If you took a bit more time with your typing, and avoided obvious wind-up comments like this, you might survive long enough to keep promoting the traditional teams in a positive way.

Hang on - has anyone else noticed this thread is based in an f'ing tribalfootball rumour. FFS. Ok here's one that's likely just as credible and equally untrue: Lowy is going to buy Spurs because he is jewish. Benjamin - want to move this thread down to rumour???

Yeah, Leeds or even Newcastle would be better IMHO, even though Palace are ANOTHER London club and London is great for many reasons including that the NT plays the odd friendly there (Albeit in a different part of London?).
I even wonder if Bristol City wouldn't be too bad, though as little as I know, off the field, their ownership aren't in any trouble. Bristol City has a fair bit of unrealised Potential - their city is the sixth largest in England, and the 'Greater Bristol Urban Area,' (550k) tenth largest conurbation of the entire UK and the surrounding Somerset region adds another 900k people to that figure. Bristol City's new 'Aston Vale' Stadium has been chosen as one of the England bid's 'World Cup venues,' meaning it's capacity will be increased from 30,000 to over 40,000 for the 2018/2022 World Cup, IF they win the right to host ofcourse. Only so many cities/venues can be chosen to host WC venues, so it's a very special honour. And you know that by then, Bristol City should have benefited greatly leading up to and post that World Cup legacy - infact I'm sure that, within the coming few seasons (Around when Ashton Vale is completed infact), Bristol City will be promoted to the EPL, they've been a paly-offs contender, making play-offs, for a few seasons now. And Nick Carle could've been better of staying there then moving to Palace, ofcourse. Some irony there I guess.
