I would love to see a two legged cup at the end of the season between South Melbounre and Sydney Olympic FC.

Both clubs are doing big things off the park in there respective states and both are showing strong signs of a-league contention, with the recent run of form both clubs look to be playing finals football and maybe take out the tittles in there states.

A two legged cup at the end of the season to determine the bigger and better club would be something special and very hot and a good curtain raisor to the a-league commenced for season 2010-211

What do you negative, football hating people think?

Many many people i know would love to see this and the Olympic Ultras would definately outdo the claridon corner.

all the latest news on Olympic can be found at:

I think the FFA have introduced a rule that state teams are unable to compete in interstate comps - can anyone confirm?

not sure of the finer details - but once off games - albeit glorified friendlies would be interesting - however sponsorship would be difficult

Firstly... @ your entire post

Secondly, United and Knights have an annual (read: when either of them can afford to travel:lol: ) pre-season friendly... We call it the "Friendship Cup"

United won it 3-2 this year

There is no such rule for interstate comps

There is a rule for joining another state's comp and its to stop teams like belconnen united, canberra deakin jumping to the NSWPL and serverly weakening the ACTPL in the process

In that case, would it be possible for a group of clubs to resign from their various state leagues and set up their own league separate and distinct from all existing competitions? I'm of the understanding that if it was attempted that the FFA could refuse to sanction it, thus making it virtually impossible for the league to sign any player with ambitions beyond that competition.

If they did that Benjamin it would be a potential rival to the A-league. At the moment I'm not sure how the A-league would cope if it were indeed a rival. For example, the Super League war. Any new competition would have to work with the FFA (and the FFA work with those clubs) to ensure it complements the A-league.

The FFA would ensure that it wasnt sanctioned by FIFA meaning that any player that plays in the league will effectively be resigned to spending his career in that league.

That happened in Colombia, and because it wasn't sanctioned by FIFA they didn't have to pay transfer fees. So really if you got some millionaire/billionaire in on it you could get some great players with the money.

a rebel comp is not the answer would be horendess for the sport.

The ffa need to bring in a second teir or amalgamate the state leagues simple.

Back as I read this a two legged cup between Sydney Olympic and South Melbounre would draw much interest from people from NSW and VIC
