I got the game today and it's amazing. The gameplay is much better than Fifa 10, it seems to be more about the build-up rather than just long-balling it straight to the striker. I recommend getting it if you're thinking about it.

Firstly, the new Australian kits look quite nice in the game but for those who hate it - good news, you can use the previous design.
Secondly, Digital Pim looks menacing on the sideline.
So I played on Legendary with the following results:
Australia 2-2 Germany Bresciano & Kewell Australia 0-1 Ghana Australia 2-1 Serbia Wilkshire (og), Cahill & Kewell (pen)
Group ended: Ghana 6 Germany 4 (through on goal difference) Australia 4 Serbia 3
Surprise group result Ghana 2-1 Germany And the Ivory Coast are World Cup Champions beating Brazil 2-1.

They're releasing a squad update once all the squads are announced.
Yeah, there are qualifiers and 199 national teams to choose from. After I take Australia to the world cup I'll try with Cook Islands or something. :D

I refuse to.

Actually Holman is quite handy cos he is so quick, however he did sky a header from 3 yards out haha.
last night i finished top of group, ger 2nd, beat algeria in 2nd round, then got smashed by arg in quarters. from memory the dutch beat brazil on pens in the final.
the best thing about it is the number of teams, i played nepal and half the team is recognised by the commentators.

same goes for Bosnar :P there was a squad update when i booted up the first time, hopefully another with the final squads
the game is good, plays well. Love the fifa games now with the manual passing control options. I think i'll leave the wc game on the shelf for a few weeks tho as i still have a uefa CL title to win in fifa 10. Two semi appearances in a row !!! 64 bucks at big w was what swung it for me, no go at full price stick with fifa imo

It is a pretty fun game. If you already have FIFA 10 don't bother, but it beats the shit out of FIFA 09, and this game can stand on its own 2 feet.
The qualifying is hilarious. A friend and I tried to take Seychelles to the world cup... we got knocked out in the first stage of qualifying in a group of Benin, Djibouti and Sierra Leone. So we just said, "Ah fuck it", and jumped into a world cup as Germany.
We put on random teams and it doesn't exactly follow qualification zones, so we ended up with about 10 African teams in the tournament. It isn't a huge deal, but it was just a tad odd. They do have a virtual world cup group draw though, with seeded pots and all, which was awesome.
We came across one huge bug as Germany though. Our group finished with 3 teams on 6 points, and we had a goal difference of 0, whilst 2 other teams had +3, yet we were placed 1st. They've obviously messed up big time there. The only other negative issue I have is that the friendlies in qualification are annoying as hell.

Got this game today, I'm loving it. Except I am surprised that it lacks Ruka and Federici. Kennedy manages to win every header though. Him and Mcdonald are a great partnership in the game.

This game is great. Physics have had a slight upgrade from FIFA 10 I feel. Feels a little more realistic.
And I am still inconsistent as shit in front of goal - I beat the Czechs 5-0, but San Marino only 2-1.

^ I know! Hes my top scorer he just gets hold of every header. My first game reminded me of when we versed japan in the 2006 world cup. I conceded early against japan equalised through a trade mark kennedy header in the 68th minutes. Than scored 3 quick goals to win it :). Its a shame cahill didnt score otherwise it wouldve been uncanny. But Aloisi wasn't playing either. What formation/lineup do you guys use in this game? I use a standard 4-4-2.

They've done a good job with the qualification (except for the friendlies as has been mentioned). It's damn hard to get a result away from home. Took Australia through qualification to winning the cup on Legendary level. If you thought the group we have in real life is bad, the thing drew me in a group with Italy, France and Peru! Then Germany, Spain, England and Brazil. I use a 4-2-3-1. McDonald and Carle got a lot of matches as Cahill and Kewell got injured quite a few times through the campaign..... --------------------Kennedy---------------------- -----Kewell---------Cahill----------Bresciano--- -----------Grella----------Culina--------------- Chipper-----Neil-----------Kisnorbo------Emerton -----------------Schwarzer---------------------- Edited by mcjules: 1/5/2010 11:18:22 PM

^ I tried 4-2-3-1 in the first half of the first game i played. It just wouldnt work for me. I've tried it several times on fifa 10 as well. The only team it really worked well for me was Arsenal. With Bendtner in the lone stiker and van persie behind him with arshavin and walcott out on the wings.

I'm pretty sure you can choose not to have friendlies. When you start a new World Cup just select the 'qualifying' option instead of 'full' and I think that removes them. Not 100% sure though.
I just won the World Cup, defeated Italy on penalties in the quarter finals and Spain 1-0 after some desperate defending in the Semi. Faced Germany in the Final and managed a 2-1 win after all 3 goals came in the second half of extra time.

We got hammered by Turkmenistan in our first friendly (4-1 I think) and then secured three 0-0 draws in a row to start qualification. We then got taken to the cleaners by China away from home 4-0. It was a bit of fun but we knew we weren't going to qualify, so we gave up too and started qualification with Australia.

4-1-2-1-2 Formation here with Kewell and Mcdonald forming a fantastic partnership.

Case A)Cup = Cup only Qualifying = Qualifying only Full = Qualifying + Cup + Friendlies Case B)Cup = Cup only Qualifying = Qualifying + Cup Full = Qualifying + Cup + Friendlies

who fancys taking vanawatu to the wc They have pretty 199 teams that are playable, but you cant use all of them in the World Cup qualifying campaign bit. Some teams can only be used from the Kick-off area, for one off matches (Montserrat, etc) We tried with San Marino but it was too damn hard on WC so did it with Aus. :)

I think you can only use teams who didn't get knocked out in the first round of quals in their area? Like, did Zim ever make it to like the group stages of quals? If they made it that far they should be good.

I'm pretty sure that if a team got knocked out in prelim qualifying, that it wont be listed in the default groups. BUT you can replace teams, so you can just pick another shit team that made it and put Zim in instead. With that said, Zim made it through to the first group stage of the CAF qualifying, so they should be there anyway. I mean, I played through qualifying (and lost) as Seychelles, who are worse than Zimbabwe, so you should have no trouble playing as them.

Yep, Zimbabwe is definitely there. Bill Murray wrote:I'm pretty sure that if a team got knocked out in prelim qualifying, that it wont be listed in the default groups.
I think this is correct. A mate and I played as Mongolia, who were knocked out by North Korea and never made it to the first group stage of qualifying in the AFC. I'm pretty sure you can try to take any nation in the game to the World Cup, you just have to replace the teams (one shit team for another, basically) when it comes to sorting out the groups. All you have to do is replace a team (I think we replaced Tajikistan or something) with the team that you want to qualify with. So for example, someone brought up Montserrat before. I'm sure that you could use them, as we played as Bermuda for a campaign, but we had to replace Suriname or something as they were one of the default teams. When we did another qualification with Indonesia, we rigged the draw by replacing some teams with teams like Nepal and Bangladesh to make it a bit easier. It can be very frustrating to qualify with the smaller nations, but fun if you do get to the World Cup.

Interesting note, player models still exist for the likes of Viduka, Kalac, Popovic and Skoko but it doesn't seem as though you can add them to your squad.
When you complete 10000 points on the 'Story of Qualifications' challenges you unlock 2006 World Cup Challenges and it lets you play the final Croatian group match....unfortunately only as Croatia.
