Mitch Langerak should clearly be Number 3 keeper. The $1mil bid from Dortmund is a perfect example that he is capable of mixing it with the world's best. You don't give Number 3 to some oldie such as Galekovic. Number 3 is the perfect spot to give to a young up-and-comer to boost their career. Melbourne probably already know Langerak is going to get Number 3 and are waiting for the post world cup price inflation... What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Roo Keeper Dilemma Is Healthy? THE MAN behind Australia's World Cup goalkeepers believes Pim Verbeek has a healthy headache when it comes to deciding on who will make the cut for South Africa.Have your say.

galekovic should be number 3 it be good for the A-league to have a small repersentation on the worlds biggest stage. However i wouldnt send anyone else from the A-league beside Culina and galekovic

I'd like to see Dean Bouzanis as the 3rd keeper, would be good experience for such a young bloke - can't see it happening though.

As the third choice GK is unlikely to make the field at any point during the tournament I think we should bring a youngster along. It’s a small risk but the experience it will deliver to a player like Langerak or Bouzanis ensures long term benefits.
This argument, however, involves youth development and long term planning. Being a pragmatist Pim will probably chose an experienced tested GK in a largely no thrills squad.

First and second choose themselves with Schwarzer and Federici.
Third is a little more interesting. I really think that Langerak with the season he has had deserves the spot. If you think Bouzanis has warranted it, you need your head read. Jones and Galekovic both have their own merrits, but you can't look past Langerak with the season he's had.
But as big dukes says, pim will go with three older hands like Schwarzer, Petkovic and Federici before he calls up a tallented youngster like Mitch. I'd even take Mitch as second choice...but taht's never ever going to happen.

Mitch can afford to miss this World Cup because IMO he'll be in the squad for the Asian Cup and depending on if Schwarzer retires or not will be 2nd choice behind Federici if Mark does retire. On the other hand as has been said the 3rd choice won't get any game time barring a disaster so might not be bad for him to go.

Bozo Bouzanis will not get a call up for a WC simply because he plays in a League that is not even A-league standard!!

Why take 3 keepers?????? Only 23 go on the plane there would me more benefits by taking a couple of young field players instead.

The rules of world cup say that you need to have 3 goalkeepers. Schwarzer and Federici are good choices. I think that the 3rd goalkeeper should be Hugene - Mitch though has had one good season, Eugene has had 3. Development is one thing but at a World Cup experienced keepers are needed.

Because FIFA rules state that your squad must contain three keepers probably :-" Quote:Mitch though has had one good season, Eugene has had 3. Mitch has shown this season that he is just as good as, if not better than Eugene and while Mitch has only had one good season Eugene has peaked as a keeper and isn't going to be making a move to Europe any time soon, his career isn't going to move any further forward and he doesn't have as much to gain from the experience. It would be wrong to deprive Langerak from such a massive learning opportunity.

He did get some first team experience, but he's not really getting much from it.

I love how Jones has had one bad performance for aus and is forever doomed. It's obviously going to be Shwarzer, Federici and Jones. Any talk of an A-league keeper going is just no. In a world cup anything can happen why would you put at risk the teams chances to give a kid "a great experience". Just no, shut up back in your holes please.

And again everyones behaving as if Mitch is some goal keeping genius. WHAT THE FUCK. yes a club wants to sign him. Fucking awesome. yes hes played 10 or so A-league games WHAT THE BALLS? He is no where near the calibre of Jones or Federici or Petkovic yet who have played some of the worlds best strikers.

Langerak is a perfectly capable keeper and as people said, the chances that he actually makes it onto the pitch is bloody long. They took some lads along for the ride last time, no reason why they can't this time. Quote:yes hes played 10 or so A-league games WHAT THE BALLS? And I'd hardly call the turkish league and the championship 'the worlds best strikers'.

^^^^^^ They play in Europe. Mitch was useless in ASIA. come on lets not get ahead of ourselves. He's capable against A-league strikers non of whom are anywhere near International class bar of course Smeltz. Oh he's played 21 games? woopdee fucking doo. THey did take some boys for the ride last time. NOT IN THE SQUAD THOUGH. They were just taken so they could train with the squad etc. Do that with Mitch sure. But don't put him on the pitch in front of Drogba and shit.

Actually, Mitch did well against asian competition. Played amazingly against Kawasaki who have some very tallented attacking players who could easily make the grade in europe. Mitch only conceded six goals in the group and kept two clean sheets.
And for the record, Petkovic has conceded substantial goals this season and has just two clean sheets to his name, he conceded four against Kayserispor!

For the record - I think that the three keepers will be Schwarzer, Federici and Pektovic. However, I would much rather Galekovic, Langerak or Jones than Pektovic. Jones has had a bad game for the Socceroos - but does play at a reassonable level. The two HAL guys have done all that is asked of them. Pektovic, on the other hand is a disaster. His main claim to fame being the guy who played crap against Tunisia to ensure cranky Franky got the boot. At least we can thank him for that!!

Petkovic is about 50/50 this season with his counterpart. But he's only played consecutive games on four occasions this season.

Is it really a good idea to be taking two championship keepers? Both Jones and Federici have very similar styles and we might need an alternative option.
Another reason to choose Mitch, he's not affraid to come charging off his line for a cross.
