Julia's right. Where is the excitement ? Maybe its because there's no SBS Socceroo song competition. I miss Damien Lovelock's misguided comments on what makes a good football song. He seemed to think that something along the vein of John Williamson was the ideal. The guy had/has no idea. You can't go past the likes of New Order.
Speaking of which - Rogue Traders - groan ....... well I suppose that will pander to the pre-pubescents. But they could have done worse and used the Celibate Rifles.

Quote:Timmy's really made a huge effort to open up to the press and engage the Australian public here. I reckon that Kings Cross press crapola got him steamed up a bit!!! There's also the fact taht he has maybe three or four good years in europe left in him and if the a-league continues to grow in quality returning home could be an attractive proposition, so he's increasing his public branding.

I know exactly what you mean Julia excitement in the press wise, it's a little perturbing but I am sure it will pick up as we get closer and don't worry about the song, it will be a beauty and we'll love it.
Hi Gaz, great to see you back on deck (and the GC UTD team alive and well) and looking forward to some healthy stoushes through the season "Go You Mariners". I actually have the doco you mention Gaz, bought it on the weekend and it's well worth the watch for anyone who didn't catch it on channel 7 (in fact even if you did, there's a lot more footage on the DVD). It gives a great insight into an outstanding australian sportsman, what it's like to play for Australia, getting to the World Cup and the pressures of life at the top while trying to keep a normal family life. I look forward to the day he runs out on Bluetongue Stadiun in the Mariners colours.........

If anyone hasn't seen that TV interview with Tim Cahill, I highly recommend it. Google Channel Seven's Sunday Show - there are a couple of videos online.

The way I look at it is Julia, when I'm asked how I think the Socceroos are going to go, my first response is "it could be really tough". I then give them the positive spin (i.e Germany have injury problems, we've beaten Ghana before, a do-or-die match against Serbia suits the Socceroos' mentality) but then I remind them that simply making the World Cup is massive and that for many countries that's all they care about. You're right there should be more excitement about the World Cup coming up (expect it to really ramp up around the NZ game) but the build up will never be as big as in 2006! (32 years...remember?) In the end I'd prefer the general public to be realistic rather than if we lose all three games (which is a pretty big possibility) we don't get slaughtered by people saying "oh but we made the Round of 16 last time". They should be thinking "well we had a squad 4 years older, injuries, and the World Cup is really hard". What do you think about the FourFourTwo blog Les Murray's Knees? During the Sydney Olympics, I happened to be sitting near Les Murray for one of the Olyroos matches. Every time I needed to leave my seat I was obliged to climb over Les's knees, all the time sm...Have your say.
