There's a lot of talent in the squad but Huntelaar is their only genuine regular goalscorer. I just wonder at leaving out such a prolific striker who is still scoring regularly at the top level when you're so light on in that position.

He may have been out for two years, but at least he's played for the Dutch national team unlike Lens who will make his Oranje debut at the World Cup finals if he makes the final cut from the squad of 30.

If he hasn't been a part of the team for two years, there's not much point in calling him back in now is there?

Sydneycro is right, he had put his hand up again to go to the world cup... but has been rejected due to not being at peak fitness.

He retired in 07 after a bust-up with Van Basten. VDS convinced them to put their differences aside and come and play for the good of the country when Ehro rolled around. Atfer Euro 2008 he retired again and hasn't been involved in the national set-up since.

And if I did I'd be mistaken.

Yeah he has but he's put his hand up to play again. That's why he moved to HSV to get some game time on hope of going to South Africa.

He has been retired from international football since August of 2008.

something to think about: holland will receive a good fan support during this wc... It was a dutch colonies after all.

In my opinion we will have the classic oranje juice as in all wc after they will show us the usual super soccer team play. But they will melt as usual, because their defense is just horrible.

Think the dutch have top of group. Curious to see who will get second. I honestly think all three teams are capable of it.

He should. That training squad that was announced last week let van Bommel and Robben off the hook to play in the champions league, i'm guessing it was much the same with van der Vaart with Real still challenging for La Liga this weekend.

I think he captained the team when van Bronckhorst came off in their last friendly against the US, it'd be pretty weird to then drop him from the squad for the cup itself. All will be revealed later this arvo/evening when their extended squad is announced.

Do you think that Van der Vaart will make the final squad or not? Hope he does, he's an absolute joy to watch, although he'll be playing second fiddle to Sneijder.

From what i understand, van Nistlerooy missed out on the train on squad and his final fate in the team will be announced today.

I'll be cheering on the Dutch as well, but Robben is still just about my least favourite player in world football.

Great player, don't get me wrong. But just about the worst sook thats ever walked onto a football pitch.

Always a team I stay up and watch at the WC. They have to be just below Spain as favourites in my eyes. In Robben, Sneijder and Van Persie they have the ability to destroy teams with their movement in the final third. Just hope they don't self destruct like every other tournament.

Serves Van Nistelroy right, he's looking a big old and tired anyway. Better to blood the youngsters.

good to see you back loki, van Nistelrooy missed out btw... bit of a shock i thought!. your right about the dutch! hard to hate them, they always end up being my second team despite my best efforts. while it is easy to hate italy/brazil/argentina/germany/france/england always love seeing those teams get roasted!!
