I would have thought Joel G should have got a call up considering HK could be out. We could have made some allowance by removing one of the DM considering we have plenty of cover there IMO ie LW,JC,MJ,VG,CV

Completely agree Absent. Beauchamp? WTF! There are too many players that have spent the year on the pine or on the physios table. I really hope Oar and Ruka get into the final squad to give us so viable attacking options off the bench because we all know with Pims 1 man up front we aint gonna score any goals

What Pim's done is actually very, very, sensible.

HE knows his 23-man squad, and has done for months - it just so happens that key players Bresciano and Kewell are crocked at the moment, Grella has had a bad run, as have another 3 or 4 players.

He's going on the side of caution - which is exactly what he should be doing at the moment

Bosnar > Moore. I don't care if Moore has more experience, at least Bosnar has a club.

Probably his cockiness and lack of discipline.

Joel Griffiths didn't make it because he isn't good enough.

Yeah, Jets_Fan, let's take Eddie Bosnar - a 33-yr-old who is COMPLETELY unproven at senior international level and would be COMPLETELY out of his depth.

You must watch EVERY pulse game in the J-League to be so keen to take him, because from what I've seen he's 7/10 at best.

What's more, lets take him instead of our ex-captain, automatic-starter centreback.

People who seem to think anyone who hasnt been selected previously is going to be selected now are deluded. Regardless of if their form is better than the ones selected the ones selected have at least played the system Pim plays once which means he can work on finer points (hopefully).

How the hell does James Holland get selected ahead of Neil Killkenny. Killkenny has been outstanding for Leeds in the last few months whikle Holland cannot even make the bench in Holland

Why would Pim take Beauchamp over Org or Bosnar? Surely those two are better options than Beauchamp.

Other than that pretty much as expected.

Ok then, lets have 2 old slow guys next to each other then. One of which doesn't even have a club and intends to play state league in the run up for the world cup. He is also the guy that got fired for drinking and being disrespectful. On the other hand we have a guy at his peak age working his ass off in Japan.

Obviously Galek will miss unless a keeper gets injured.

Jets_Fan, the J-League is a slightly different level to World Cup football, dumbass - and it's a level Eddie is, once again, completely unproven at.

Bosnar isn't particularly fast either - you'd know this if you'd actually seen him play.

As much as I would love him to be there – I think Galekovic will be cut – and butterfingers Jones will make it. He is younger and is employed in a better league. The likelihood of the third keeper seeing any game time is at best remote so the Jones kid may be a better option purely for bench sitting experience.


My take on the team:


Defenders:

Beauchamp – never will be forgiven for the own goal in the Paraguay friendly – known as the Popovic, Lazrides retirement game. Cut.
Jade North – has had a few solid games in the Green and Gold (man of the match in one from memory) but lacks the overall quality required for a critical bench warming spot. Cut.
Carney – will be there. Fast, confident clever runs on the left wing. Can score from distance. Will be subbed on when old legs Chipper tires.
Chipper – will start guaranteed.
Lowry – young gun with talent to burn – will make the cut but won’t see any game time. He just got a free ticket the world cup though with a front row seat!
Milligan – hot/cold/hot/cold. Will make the cut but same as Lowry – maybe an 80th minute sub for Moore?
Moore – old and clubless but guaranteed to start. The man does not feel pressure.
Neill – our best defender. Will be one the stars at the WC if we progress.
Wilkshire – brilliant player. Consistent. Hard worker. Guaranteed start.
Williams – see Lowry.

Mids:

Bresciano – Mr Reliable. Needs to start if fit.
Cahill – superstar full stop. Critical for any chance of success.
Carle – tricky little player that has his admirers. Cut.
Culina – experienced. Solid. Reliable. Leader. Will do the job required. Guaranteed starter.
Emerton – quiet achiever. Played more games in current squad than any other player. Can set up goals and defend like a MF. Will start.
Garcia – has been injured and club just got relegated. Cut.
Grella – our midfield general. Guaranteed starter.
Holland – one of our future stars – but in a talent heavy midfield – probably Cut.
Holman – Pims love child. Has no football brain but will somehow see game time in the WC.
Jedinak – great player but well under the radar. Bench warmer.
Oar – our great hope for the future once Harry hangs up the boots. Will be doing a Lowry/Williams.
Valeri – not a bad player – has had a few good games in green and gold. This guy is meant to be our Grella in waiting but is yet to stand up.
Vidosic – talented kid apparently having a good season in Germany but will be Cut.

Forwards:

Kennedy – the beanpole. Hopefully can head in a couple against Ghana. Having a decent season in Japan. World Cup experienced. Could possible start if Harry played in midfield.
Kewell – see Cahill.
McDonald – this could be his chance to show us what he has got. Will make the team but Pim will probably use sparingly if Harry is fit.
Rukavytsa – young gun. Future star. Would be a risk to give him game time but would probably scare some defenders if given the chance.

Kilkenny should be in for Lowry. The only problem is Kilkenny is a midfielder in the mould of Cahill so it is almost pointless taking him considering Holman will be coming off the bench more than anybody else. Kilkenny starts every match and Lowry warms the pine for Leeds. Interesting decision by Pim. Probably picked Lowry to give him a run against NZ for ten mins or something.

pretty decent squad, im still suprised that North and Beauchamp have been picked, average at best, and have even been playing regular football?

I am pessemistic about our chances in SA and will be grateful when Verbeek has coached his last game for Australia.

I hope Dario makes the final cut, I know he hasn't really proven himself at club level but i think he is an exciting player to watch. =]

Shane Lowry is about as talented as good ol' zadko. If he isn't left-footed, he would still in the State leagues.

If you think Pim is undecided, you'll be happy to know that Vincente Del Bosque, the coach of Spain, (you know, the favourites for the tournament) has selected FIVE goalkeepers in his 30-man squad.
Casillas, Reina, Lopez, Valdez and De Gea.

In the act, leaving our Barca's Bojan Krkic and Liverpool's Albert Riera.

Most teams have yet to name a 23 man squad.

I would have picked Casillas, Reina, Valdez and let them play one match each they are all that good.

Seriously, if anyone expected to see Colosimo in the squad, they're kidding themselves. Culina and Galekovic were always the only A-League based players with a chance of getting selected.

In saying that, Beauchamp is a bit of a surprise. However, calls for Bosnar to be included are a laugh - if Pim had him in his plans, he would have played him by now. Better the devil you know than the one you don't.

Pretty happy with the squad overall, and nice to see a bit of youth in there to prepare for a new generation of Socceroos.

Leaving Joel Griffiths out I think was a mistake. Would love to have his pace and skill coming off the bench with 10 minutes to go running at tired defenders. He has also played the Pim system for 2 years under Van Egmond and knows what is required.
