I think on the whole, it's quite a well rounded squad. Well done Pim! What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Pim: Why I Axed The GloryRoos? PIM Verbeek says it wasn’t an easy decision to leave out a trio of Glory players saying it was a gamble to come home and play in the A-League.Have your say.

Really Pim, everyone was playing??? you want to think about that???
Because if you look, Craig Moore isn't playing, he's not even training with a world class squad. yet he was chosen.
But then, why pick quality when you can pick the same safe players injured or not. So many better choices available and nothing special in this team.
At least their are only 2 months until you are gone and we can get someone with experience in to lead the Socceroos.

I know Criag Moore has always stood up to be counted in the past but really everyone can see he ain't World Cup material anymore, it is insulting to say these guys haven't done enough when Mooore has cleary done buggar all.
He better play his socks off or he'll never live it down.

Culina and Moore have both played for extensive periods at a higher level than the Perth trio. That's the difference.
And both of them have been the backbone of their A-league clubs, although that's probably immaterial.
Don't blame Pim, blame Dave Mitchell. If these Perth guys had won the A-league it might have been a different story.

I will blame Moore for every goal scored against us that is his fault - and I reckon there may be a few.

I agree with Gaz re Culina and Moore The Glory 3 should have run riot in the A League, they didn't and the last couple of times didn't step up for Australia. Jacob Burns and the Uzbek game being the exception.

Burns and Sterj not going yeah ok fair enough, they didn't REALLY warrant being selected. But how can you say Coyne is less deserving than Moore? Coyne was far better than Moore all season, along with Sir Todd carried Perth's defence and went out to China just to get attention for selection. Moore went to Greece, sucked there, then came back and can't even get a gig with a QLD state league side. It's just pathetic that Moore can be put in the squad. Oh and I'm all for Culina being there, he's easily good enough.

Pretty gut-wrenching for Sterj & Coyne, in particular, who were regular fill-ins 24 months ago.
At least Sterj can say he was there in 06 and actually started serveral games.
Football can be such a cruel, cruel sport.

You have better players than these three. As others have commented, they didnt stake a strong enough claim during the A-League season. They needed to be outstanding to find a way in given the competition. They weren't.

Coyne couldn't even get a run in the A-league based squads, he was doomed from the beginning.
Sterj didn't have a great year for Glory and when he was called up didn't produce for the national team. Burns was never going to be in front of the euro based DMs.
In summary, their non-selection shouldn't have come as a surprise to them (or us).
They should have put their feet up and enjoyed the great Perth weather over the past few weeks.

they shouldnt be surprised
none of them were good enough
sterj has gone backwards ever since he left basel, and his time at derby being on the bench every single week has been justified by his a-league form and the fact that he was awful for australia in his last 2 games and did nothing to help himself. great squad player back in the day but not the same player anymore. shouldnt have any complaints.
burns was never good enough
coyne i feel a little sorry for considering he did nothing wrong to not be in the squad if his situation is compared to moore who has done fuck all in the last 2 years. but i wouldnt of taken him anyway

Pim should have just said, quite simply, that there were 30 players who were better than Coyne, Burns and Sterjovski. Unlucky lads.
That said, I'm firmly in the camp that says game-time shouldn't be an issue - especially as Pim himself said that players are better off training with top clubs in Europe than playing in the A-League. Make up your mind, Pim.

I agree that the 3 of them havent exactly set the league on fire but that doesnt stop me feeling sorry for them.
You would have to feel gutted to be left out.
Will this turn other Socceroos from coming back home to the A league?

Well, the likes of North, Beachamp have 2 weeks to show that they deserve their spots more than Moore, and perhaps Moore will find himself left behind when the Socceroos jet takes off afterall.

I disagree if Holman came home and played as shit as Sterj has everybody would be laughing and saying "I TOLD you he we shit!". Only nobody ever thought Sterj was shit in the first place which gives him some saving grace back home, everybody says... "Oh he just didn't have a good year."

In the end, they took the risk to come home assuming they would look good in the A-league. Unfortunately, it didn't pan out that way and I feel for Coyne who stepped up fairly well when called upon recently.
Pim's in a bind, no matter what he says one camp or another will twist his words against him. Even as a Glory fan, I say he's made the right choices so far - though as much as it pains me to say it, I also think Colosimo deserved a spot.

There was an interview with Pim in one of the local papers here in Perth (which I am sure would have been syndicated across other national papers too). In it, Pim talked about the key strengths of our squad and his suprises when taking on the role as national coach. Core to the article was Pim's assertion that our squad, unlike many other more talented squads throughout the world including the Dutch, play as a team. There is no room for selfish players or egos within the team. Pim actually mentioned Moore, Neil, Schwarzer and Grella as the players essential to our squad's cohesion. These four players organise and manage the rest of the squad, both on and off the pitch.
Whilst I am hoping that Moore doesnt play in South Africa as I dont believe he is up to it anymore (I'd much rather see Milligan paired up with Neil given that Kisnorbo has been ruled out), his presence with the squad will provide essential guidence, leadership and experience for what is otherwise (Schwarzer excluded) a fairly young and inexperienced squad once you look past the first 11.
I think both Sterj and Colosimo were a bit unlucky to miss out, but if you look past the first 15 players (ie. those actually likely to take to the pitch in SA), most of the others are quite young.
