Slow-starting Ballarat Red Devils lose again

THE Ballarat Red Devils have failed to make the most of their chances, beaten 2-0 by Brunswick City in Football Federation Victoria state league two soccer on Saturday at Brunswick.
Slow out of the blocks again, the Haymes Red Devils fell victim to Brunswick City's strategy of long delivery into the box, as the home team scored twice from its only two real chances.
Ballarat, meanwhile, was left scoreless despite having more than twice as many shots on goal as City.
"Once again the match can be described as unlucky," Reds coach Dale Harris said.
"The scoreline was rather flattering for Brunswick but at the end of the day they took their two real only chances and we did not take any of our six or seven clear-cut chances that we had.
"The positives out of the game are that we are creating numerous chances in front of goal and, in all fairness, the Brunswick goalkeeper had a fantastic game.
"We are asking questions about every team's defence. We have to show more composure in front of goals."
Michael Leslie and Tristan Romein again played well at the heart of the Reds' defence, but Brunswick got its reward on 32 minutes for some good pressure when a long throw was flicked on and a City forward hooked the ball into the net.
Ballarat should have equalised straight from the kick-off when Sam Muscat played a great ball to Sam Winch and one-on-one with the keeper, but Winch had his shot saved by the City keeper.
Brunswick was content to kick and chase for most of the day, while Ballarat looked to play the ball on the ground.
Winch, Josh Romein and Leigh Sissons all saw shots on goal beaten out and turned around the post.
With the match mostly played in the Brunswick half, a quick counter-attack by City with three forwards against two Reds defenders allowed City to score with 10 minutes to play.
Ballarat still had chances, with a Josh Romein shot going over and a Tristan Romein header going wide.
