Leaving the unlucky Carl Valeri as the one who, at this stage, is on the outer.

I did enjoy the read but I really don't believe Pim rates Mile Jedinak or Richard Garcia above Carl Valeri, especially in a holding midfield role.

And Beauchamp really has no hope, the guy is on the downhill part of the form cycle, he's the token selection just to rub it in the noses of all the columnists who have been busy telling him who he should pick in defense.

I'm sorry, who said Michael Beauchamp, WTF?

What do you think about the FourFourTwo blog Culling the Socceroos?
Let me start my first Socceroos blog by stealing a line from one of 442's forum members, YNWAMelbHeart.
I think he said it best when he commented: ''Beauchamp. WTF?''
He's somewhat the forgotten man...

Have your say.

Yeah because Carle is so impressive nobody in the Aus team knows how to warm a bench like him.

1) If all the keepers are fit Galekovic will drop out.

2) If Moore shows enough Michael Beauchamp will drop out.

3) If Carney can prove his fitness Shane Lowry will drop out.

4) If Bresciano and Emerton can prove their fitness Garcia will drop out

5) If Harry is fit Tommy Oar will drop out.

6) If Grella is fit Holland will drop out - while known as an attacking mid he actually plays a more controlling role from deeper.

7) Milligan and North are playing for one spot. All things being equal North will drop out because Milligan is more versatile.

8)Mile Jedinak and Carl Valeri are playing for the one position. Jedinak will go because of his versatility with Williams, Milligan, Carle and Wilkshire all able to play DM a fourth specialist DM is a luxury. Jedinak also is an aerial threat going forward and better aerially in defence. He is also probably the best set piece taker in the squad.

All in all the first seven are easy decisions. The eighth is the hardest choice. Valeri looks to be the unluckiest player to likely miss the cut. Equally if Jedinak missed out he would be very unlucky.

Add James Holland to that list of A-League players as well. Making it 12.

And, sorry StiflersMom! I only saw the forum posts from the article on the front page. Obviously I credit you as well then!

I have to agree - but Carle will probably be going to give more options in attack. The big advantage that people like Wilkshire, Carle, Jedinak, Williams, Emerton, Milligan, Vidosic, Culina, Kewell and Bresciano have is they can play a number of roles.

Given the amount of injury concerns and the lack of game time of many in the squad this versatilty is what will give many the nod over other options.

Wow, Valeri out over Carle, Garcia and Jedinak is a big call. Otherwise I'd probably agree. But Milligan I have a feeling will be in the WC 23. I don't know why and I don't want him to be but he will.

"Carl Valeri:
Carl is one of those players who are always available, always ready. If he plays, he never plays a bad game, he's always playing for the team, he's a tough Italian grown-up boy and it's good to have him with us, especially in the World Cup."

Based on that last sentence, I think he'll be in the final 23.

Agee that Galekovic will be cut.

Defenders to miss out should be North, Carney and Lowrey.

Midfielders to miss out should be Holland, Holman, Garcia and Carle.

Disagree with your comments on the following players:

Oar: We have to take him as a replacement for Harry on the left of midfield. He's one of only 2-3 guys in the squad that can run at defenders.

Jedinak: He will fight for the second defensive midfield spot with Culina. I hope he wins this battle, solid and much better passer of the ball than Culina i.e. can pass forward!

Valeri: Will go as cover for Grella, nothing more certain.

Vidosic: Will go as cover for Cahill and also right midfield. This spot is a battle between Garcia, Holland, Carle and Holman. Pim loves the kid and his recent form should give him the advantage. If Carle has a blinder he might pip the lad, but I don't expect it.

Don't get carried away by what Pim said in his selection explanation. What's he going to say, "Such and such is a dope and has no real shot. I'm just bringing him in to fuck with him,"? There aren't any clues based on what he said unless he expressly excluded him from the squad like he did with Galekovic.

Quote:
Mile Jedinak:
Mile has had a great season in Turkey. He's a player who made unbelievable progression in two years' time. Thanks to the Mariners, he got his chance to be part of the A-League team. He's one of the most solid players we have in our selection. He's still playing next weekend and we all hope and pray he will survive that game also.

If there's one thing Pim values its solidity. "Most solid players we have in our selection." Could make the same case that Jedinak won't be left out.

I wouldn't be surprised if both Valeri and Jedinak are in the final 23.

Michael Beauchamp:

30 appearances for Nuremburg in the Bundesliga
2006 World Cup Squad
Played in the 2007 Asian Cup finals
Group stages of Champions League with Aalborg
Last played for Socceroos in April 2009 in Sydney. World Cup Qualifier vs Uzbekistan

And this own goal keeps coming up as if it is this player's definitive moment.

Lucas Neill fucked up big time in 2006, regardless of whether Grosso dived or not. When we talk about Lucas we don't say "oh fuck I can't believe he's the captain, he made us lose in the World Cup.

Have a look at Beauchamp's resume as opposed to Milligan, North, Ognenovski, Colosimo, Coyne or anyone else you'd like to throw in there.

He didn't play for a while through injury, than had to find another club, and now he's playing....

What's all the fuss about?

+1. but unfortunately Pat's selections make perfect sense for a coach like Verbeek, who selects based around positions rather than tactics or form.

Carney ahead of Lowey is a joke. And Beauchamp anywhere near the national side is an embarrassment. How can a bloke playing in fucking middle of nowhere shitsville league get a spot ahead of guys playing here and Japan is pretty bloody woeful. Just because you earn more doesn't mean you're a better option.

The fuss is that he now plays with either Al Jazeera ( Arabic TV Station ) or Al Etihad
( Emirates Airlines ) and he excels at coughing up the ball to the opposing centre forward in front of our goal. [-o<

God, even Danny Alsopp has better touch. 8-[

Beauchamp has more goal assists than Pirlo.

How can you compare them??

We already have 3 specialist DMs. Why do we need another one? Valeri has been entirely unimpressive imo

We don't need 3 DM's. Jedinak/Valeri and Grella will be suitable, what we do need is some attacking flair which Nicky gives. Taking into account Bresc's and Emo's fitness problems, perhaps a bit of attacking midfield security isn't so insane?

IMO it's irrelevant. Pim is too conservative to start Nicky anyway, and will most likely give Holman the most important role in the team

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

#-o. You said 'At least Valeri gets game time'. I was showing you that Carle gets more gametime than Valeri.

But what Marconi said - We all know if Cahill cant play, Holman will be AMC.

In fact, im waiting for the game, when we are 1-0 down, or 0-0, and theres 20minutes to go, and he takes off Cahill and brings on Holman.

You watch - it will happen

Attacking midfielders you've got aplenty. Bresciano, Kewell, Cahill, Holman, Culina, Vidosic, Emerton...attacking options out our ears. And given we're going to spend more time defending, a third DM is a better option than bringing Carle who lets be honest still can't complete a pass.

So was I.

Carle made 22 league apps for palace.

14 of which were starts

+3 carling cup starts. so 17

Valeri has made 13 apps (11 starts)

So your argument of 'At least Valeri gets game time' is incorrect.

Valeri moved in January. He's played 14 games for Sassuolo since January and played 9 for Grossetto before he left.

14 + 9 = 23. My statement is correct.

He made 6 starts at Grosetto and 11 at Saussuolo

= 17.

Nick Carle also started 17 games.

So, your statement is incorrect. Valeri didn't play more than Carle, like you implied

Nick Carle has played 1192 minutes this season, Carl Valeri has 1498 minutes to his name (1192 with Sassuolo and 551 with Grossetto).

Also, Valeri has 12 starts at Sassuolo.

Clearly it's less than 1192 if he's played 551 at Grossetto. I got distracted mid post there.

It was 947 minutes for Sassuolo and 551 at Grossetto. That sounds a little better.

Regardless, he still has more game time than Carle this season.

Source is stats.touch-line.com They're very detailed in their game time.
