And to contradict myself, he shouldn't have left the Roar the way he did. A bit silly from a so called 'professional'.

Fairly sure that is more than a youth team coach.

Should have picked Joel Griffiths - he has enough ego for the whole team! Good on you Pim - you've done well leaving him out.

At the risk of sounding a little cliched you get the feeling the boys are mates as well which I have always suspected is not the case with other National teams. It is definatly an X factor that will stand us in good stead when the chips are down.

Lol, good call Big Dukes.
Also, I find it rather appropriate that in the 'related articles' section under Pims photo, there's articles on "Furious Griffiths Blasts Verbeek" and "Mature Rooney Relishing World Cup".

The title should read: Verbeek Omits Joel Griffiths From Squad, Hails Ego-Free Roos.

Quote:Team Spirit Is Australia’s Strength – Pim Verbeek Verbeek has lavished praise upon the attitude of his side ahead of what could be the biggest tournament of their lives... By Robin Bairner May 14, 2010 Australia coach Pim Verbeek believes the togetherness and outstanding professionalism of his unit will help them greatly when they travel to South Africa for this summer’s World Cup. “My players are the most professional players I've worked with,” the Dutchman claimed, according to the PA. “Mark Schwarzer of course, Lucas Neill, Vince Grella, Timmy Cahill just to mention a few who just bring something extra into the team. You can see they don't allow any other person not to be professional. “So far in the last two-and-a-half years, I haven't had to do so much because my players control the dressing room. “They enjoy being together, so the team spirit is fantastic. We have to be at our best and we have to do it all together.” If the Socceroos are to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition, they will have to overcome Germany, Serbia and Ghana in what has the look of one of the most exciting groups in the competition. The Australians are, however, boosted by an extremely healthy squad. http://www.goal.com/en/news/1863/world-cup-2010/2010/05/14/1924372/world-cup-2010-team-spirit-is-australias-strength-pim

You Eurosnobs on this site can carry on all you like about how great individually the Serbs and the Germans and the Ghanains are for that matter but when it comes to the crunch of the World Cup they better all bring there A-game or they will get bit!!

I don't think these observations can be readily dismissed, and the team spirit will count for a lot.
That said, Pim is also being a clever manager here - his subtle message to the team is that he appreciates and perhaps rewards team harmony and professionalism. Perhaps this also explains some of his non-selections eg Bosnar and Griffiths.

yeah were awesome. What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Verbeek Hails Ego-Free Roos? AUSTRALIA coach Pim Verbeek has praised his ego-free Socceroos and believes their team camaraderie will give them an edge at the World Cup finals in South Africa next month.Have your say.
