I went out and bought the new socceroos shirt that I have been endlessly criticizing for weeks and weeks. #-o
In the ultimate act of loyalty (Or betrayal), I went down to the local Kamo soccer shop and thought it didn't look too bad, so basically I picked it up for a rip-off price of 10800 yen.
This is a big deal for me, because in my twenty five years on this Earth, I have never bought any kit for any code... ever. This includes my beloved Sydney Swans whom I have felt deeply connected to since I was born.
Does this mean I feel more connection and passion for the socceroos and football than my traditional AFL and Sydney Swans? Only time will tell. 8-[ Perhaps it's the anticipation for the World Cup and my love will die when the World Cup is over.
Honestly, I am both disgusted with myself (For my lack of commitment to my criticism of the socceroos shirt) and cautiously excited (At the realization that perhaps that my love for the socceroos is equal to, if not greater than the Sydney Swans). It's shattered my understanding of my identity, that's for sure.
Anyhoo, this is a big deal for me, so apologies for making a thread about nothing.
If anything, take this thread as a sign that Australians are becoming devoted to the game, or the fact that some are warming to the current World Cup shirt.
I just sure as hell hope Australia can win in this shirt, so I can have fond memories of it in the future and perhaps Australians will take it up as a permanent design.
