Player development courses

THE recent demise of Penrith Nepean United seriously decreased opportunities for representative players.

Several local players now travel to Rockdale and further, several times a week, to play in Football NSW's Premier League competition.

But the Nepean District Soccer Football Association has stepped up its involvement at a grass roots level to add to a strong foundation for player development.

The appointment of James Rankine as football manager has seen a dramatic increase in courses to help assist players, coaches and clubs in the Nepean region. Rankine has just completed the ninth grassroots coaching course in the Association, giving the Nepean area more than 130 coaches, with another 10 courses planned.

And Elite Goalkeeping, a company run by John Crawley, the current Central Coast Mariners coach, has joined forces with the NDSFA to provide specialised goalkeeping training to players in the Nepean.

Elite Goalkeeping will be conducting these sessions at Cook Park, St Marys, on Tuesday nights: ages 10-13, 5-6.15pm and ages 14-17+, 6.15-7.30pm.

Players who wish to attend need to email their interest to NDSFA Football Manager James Rankine at james.rankine@nepeansoccer

.com .au.

Players who wish to join this new training squad should contact John directly by phone on 0414515595 or email at elite@goalkeeping.com.au.

Th e NDSFA has done well with player registrations at an all time high and strong youth development foundations.

With Western Sydney's A-League club, Sydney Rovers, in the A League, the game in Western Sydney is going from strength to strength.

Hopefully it will only be a matter of time before Nepean is represented in a men and women's competition, proudly wearing the red and white.
