Least we scored a goal and got a point, here's hoping Germany thrash Ghana and we can pull of an upset.

I can't speak for any-one else but, I, for one am extremely proud of the socceroos. It was a bloody courageous effort.

thatguybayne wrote:I just hope the media in this country see this for what it is. A courageous effort. Absolutely. 110% effort. We looked excellent when Kennedy was on the pitch and hopefully we take something from it into the Serbia game and we can put a couple past them. A five goal turn-around isn't unachievable, but it's a bloody long shot. Needless to say, if we'd had 11 men, we could have won that game quite comfortably. Very disheartening to see that after Kewell got sent packing, but definitely something to take to the Serbia game knowing that we're capable of scoring two or three goals if we play like that again.

great game by australia. gah if wilkshire would have just dinked it over the keeper...
the socceroos can hold their heads up with this performance. mathematically we are still in it but our world cup is over. i feel very sad for harry kewell, i feel like he earned his place in the lineup and was screwed over by that douchebag ref. yes its a handball on the line but it was clearly unintentional. i am very sad for the player and i think he has earned more than this.
the refs have been completely awful. we all deserve better.

Easy done, surely? :P In all honesty Ghana will be going for the win and are every chance of getting a win. People would have said Switzerland beating Spain would be impossible and North Korea playoff like they did against Brazil would be impossible. Everyone on the panel is saying we hope Ghana get a hiding. I don't want to hve to rely on GD i'd rather cheer Ghana on to beat Germany and we go through.

even if ghana beats germany we could still go through - just correcting myself.
however i dont think that will happen. that being said, i want to see australia play their hearts out (again) and show the world what they can do. at the very least they can be spoilers for serbia and knock out a good european side.
i am very sad but also very proud to be a socceroos supporter today

agreed. played well. lets just make sure next match we at least have a consolation game, and once again end with 1 win, 1 draw, 1 loss.

End of the day - if that was a defender from Ghana, and it was on their line - we'd all be up in arms if the ref didn't give a penalty. Edited by Benjamin: 20/6/2010 02:11:19 AM

I've seen similiar instances waved away (in this World Cup if I'm not mistaken) though and I think that's what's pissed everyone off.

Quote:great game by australia. gah if wilkshire would have just dinked it over the keeper... ...this forum would be covered in semen. Quote:People would have said Switzerland beating Spain would be impossible Actually, I called that about a week ago if you care to remember. Quote:Something else about this... Right hand - fist, left hand - loose. Indicates that the right arm was tensed. You can tense your arm without making a fist, but it's a natural move to ball ones fist when you do it. Eyes are closed, which - in fairness - half indicates that he felt the ball was as likely to hit him in the face as the arm. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make out of this, Benj. Bottom line is, the decision has been made. The player was sent off (whether correctly or not), the penalty was scored, the point was 'stolen' (if you will), full time was blown. There's absolutely fucking NOTHING that can be done about it now, but it was 1-1 and an amazing performance from Australia and we're on the board, we're still alive in the tournament.
