Look if Pim had even come close to wanting to take Nicky Carle with him in the first place he would be there still training with the boys.

He didn't. He knew he wouldn't play nicky so why bother.

Im sorry people but Carle is and never was the answer.
He is a good A-League player at best.
To be honest apart from some stupid tricks I never even thought he was that great in the A-League either.
That goal everyone always shows where he ran almost the whole field and scored agains Adelaide was, if you look, due to the fact that not one person was in Adelaide's midfiel;d to even attempt to tackle him. Then he toe poked it home.

He is a good player. Not a World Cup player and not a team player in a team where team is everything...if that makes sense.

I'm just sick of hearing all this whinging about selections and especially about Carle.

Over
Forget it
He's not playing

And to paraphrase my previous post :

There are several players in EVERY World Cup Squad out of the 32 with players that will see NO GAME TIME AT ALL so why not bring our best player along if he is even a tiny chance to even play some tiny role?

Anyone even remotely suggesting we shouldn't take kewell even if he is a 10% chance of starting a game is out of their tiny little minds.

I gauruntee you there will be many players who see no game time as well anyways so why the hell wouldn't you take the most gifted player this country has?

Insanity.

As someone above said, he was clearly not 100% in '06 and look what he did for us against Croatia. Also apart from the goal he ran himself into the ground covering back as well.

The poor bastard pushed himself to the point of not being able to play the biggest game in Aust. football history(Italy knock-out)so that the team could reap the benefits.

If Kewell plays 30 mins against Ghana and/or Serbia it will be more than worth it.

If he doesn't he will be one of a few that played no game time whatsoever.

Some people obviously have some sort of over inflated sense as well of what a kid like Oar or someone could bring to the table in a World Cup. Sure it would be a great experience for these kids but they are already there. They have seen the preparation, they have mixed it with the big boys. Now its time to let those big boys take over. Their time will come.

Bring on Harry's 30 minutes and one goal that will take us through the group(optimistic i know).

Maybe people commenting on here came onboard AFTER the last World Cup - but this is EXACTLY what was happening before it.

So no, not "fuck Pim" - no-one was saying "fuck-Guus" (because, funnily enough, it wasn't trendy to do so).

Who gives a sh*t if Harry isn't fit for a full game against Germany - it just means he's going to be fit for the other two group stage games. And if he ISN'T Fit - one of 22 other players can step in (hint: that's why we take a squad)

This + 2

Lol dumbest thing ive read (not referring to the Carle part). Let me get this straight. Harry isnt fit for Germany, but will be a couple of days later for the next game........after 6 months out of action with constant injury?? I try not to be offensive on this website, but your a dumbfuck.

Dont get me wrong, i really want Kewell playing. But the disadvantage of unfit players was highlighted only a week ago against NZ! Now your demanding not only an unfit player, but also one who cant even physically train with our squad 10 days out be taken along for the ride?

Also we're taking a squad of 23. Minus 3 goalkeepers plus a likely injury to Kewell early on and we are down to 19 (no withstanding any other injuries).

Harry is pure class, the best we have and have ever had. But where do we draw the line?

I don't give a sh*t about being offensive on this website - so F*ck you, you f*cking c*nt.

You f*cking negative pr*ck - let me explain this to you again -

* Harry's on a fitness regime, focused at having him 100% for Ghana (NOT GERMANY)
* He will be 100% for Germany, but will be rested.
* Again, a 80%-fit Kewell shits on anyone else we got.
* You underestimate what 10 days of recovery can do for a player
* Who gives a sh*t if he isn't training with the rest of the squad.

F*ck off and support England with the other whiny pr*cks if you don't like it.

Harry has to be there whether he is 100% ft or 50% fit, in this squad he is irreplaceable.
Im crazy like a fooool, gotta take Harry Kewell. \:d/  \:d/  \:d/

you guys. that time of the month i take it? bleeding out your manginas?

take a chill pill and agree to disagree.

we need kewels depth when it really counts. for the first 60 mins, we have the resources to defend. pims style.

i would say to theguys that when kickoff commences, they should think of it as starting as 1-0 down, to make them focus.

Harry will be as fit as is humanly possible for the Germany game and whilst he won't be 100% match fit he will be as close as possible. I'd expect him to play maybe 30 - 45 mins against USA. whether he plays tonight or not is a moot point make no mistake he will, barring mishap, play against Germany.

I think you could both make your points better without the swearing guys.

 So this disavantage of unfit players was highlighted only a week ago in the New Zealand game, but those same very players are going to be playing at the cup? Amazing that the fitness issue is going to be fixed come 14 June.

The fact is Harry is clearly close to being fit, physically he is almost there but he is however lacking in match fitness. Maybe he will be on as a sub for the USA game, on as a sub in the Germany game and on as a sub for the Ghana game. Fuck maybe he will be a sub in all three group games, but I can guarentee you he will make more of a difference than any of the other players you refer to save as Cahill and Schwarzer. His fitness will improve but he obvisouly needs time.

You would have to be the dumbest fuck ever to leave him out, and it's as simple as that. Any squad, whether it is international or domestic, give their very best players until the very last minute to prove their fitness. Make no mistake Kewell, as much as I don't particulary like him and even in light of his injuries, is far and away the most technically gifted and intellgent players we have in the squad. Why do you think Ghana gave Essien up until the other day to prove his fitness despite being out since January.

I mean seariously Kewell was barely fit in the last world cup and still managed to pick up the goal that got us through to the group stage. ](*,)

Where do you draw the line, well if there is 0% chance of him playing then he shouldn't be there, if there is a chance then you'd be stupid not to take him.

The just proves that Harry is in trouble, if he is unable to play a full game in one of the most important games than something is wrong.

A draw against Germany and the socceroos are laughing!!!

The game against Germany is NOT one of the most important games!!!

Verbeek's aim against Germany is 0-0. Why would he put Harry on if its going to that plan, and risk him being unavailable for the next two which are far more winnable than the one against Germany. Simply he won't: Kewell will NOT play against Germany, unless we are a goal down or two, and 70 minutes left. THATS what the "cameo" role in the Germany game being talked about is. Kewell will then be asked to play the last 55-60 minutes against Ghana, and 90 minutes against Serbia which in all likelihood we will need to win.

I hate to break it to you mate - but the Germany game isn't the most important game for the Socceroos.

And a draw against Germany would give them ONE point - they still need to find another 5 to progress through the group stages. Would hardly call that 'laughing'

Its good to see that I don't need to go in to the specifics of my opinion as plenty of people already have. One quick bump and he's gone. the world cup is 9 days away, he hasn't had a full training session since Febuary, he hasn't played a full game since January and we have already cut the one player with a chance of filling his shoes (Nicky Carle) (through flare not actual talent).

If he magically pulls up i'll eat my words but Pims persistance with an injured player is akin to his chacing of the Dukes even though we could all see that he wasn't coming back.

It really sucks to admit it, but if he isnt 100% fit the day before Germany he should be replaced. Would really disadvantage the team taking an unfit player to the cup.

Who would come in? Oar?

WE DO NOT HAVE A PLAYER TO REPLACE HIM maybe in a couple of years one of our young creative players will be good enough to fill his shoes (Oar, Vido, Troisi, Burne, Leckie) even a realy young one like Ibrahim or Amini. but at the moment we do not have anyone who can do what he does. He is creative and extremely good technicaly and is proven against the best in the world, he has it in him so come onto the park for 10 mins and turn a game around. even at 80 or90% he is invaluable. in a perfect scenario we would have another player who can step up and fill his shoes but at the moment we can only use what we have.

Was never doubting his quality (tho he peaked as a 23-24 year old), but that wont make up for him being unfit. He couldnt see thru the last WC, but hes older now and has had even more injuries. Do you really think an unfit, slighly injuried player will be able to perform against our opponents? Kewell will be knocked then wont play the rest of the Cup, then we are down to 22.

If he reaches 100% then great, if not we must look at our options.

Wasted place in the team. This isn't good enough. We should have our Best and Fittest players in the 23 man squad not 22 and a 90% maybe perhaps he'll be okay to play a full game if we make the final 16.

there are plenty of big names missing out on the World Cup, Kewell can join them on the bench.

Just no. Kewell is one of the greatest players ever to have graced the Australian jersey. Even with a cameo role off the bench, he'll do wonders. His form in Turkey was amazing. You can't honestly say that a 90% Kewell is worse than someone like Michael Zullo ???

Kewell set for cameo role1
31 May 2010-SBS EXCLUSIVE

Harry Kewell has been earmarked as a second half substitute in Australia’s World Cup opener against Germany on 14 June as part of coach Pim Verbeek's master plan to nurse his attacking ace through the tournament.

Unlikely to be sighted – even off the bench - in Australia’s final warm-ups against Denmark on Tuesday and the US on Saturday, Kewell is working tirelessly with the Socceroos' fitness conditioner Darren Burgess to be ready in time for his cameo against the three-time champion.

A source within the Australia camp has revealed that Verbeek is so determined to protect Kewell from a recurrence of his long-standing groin injury that he is reluctant to unleash his potential match-winner until the final 20 minutes against Germany, a strategy which all but guarantees a start to beanpole striker Josh Kennedy as Australia’s point man.

With just five minutes of football under his belt since undergoing groin surgery three months ago, the Galatasaray attacking midfielder is on a joint mission as Australia prepare for their Group D duels against the Germans, Ghana and Serbia – to pilot Australia to the second phase of the tournament for the second time and to produce the magic that will cement a new two-year deal with Gala.

Kewell, whose strike against Croatia four years ago earned Australia a 2-2 draw and place in the knockout phase, admits he must flourish in South Africa to be sure of securing his future in Turkey.

He told The World Game before jetting to the Rainbow Nation: "It’s obvious that having played so little football this year that I need to be playing to show the management at Galatasaray that I am still the player they expect me to be.

"The World Cup will hopefully give me the chance to do that. I know what I’m capable of and with the excellent treatment I’ve been getting I’m sure I’ll be able to produce the performances I need to when the time comes.

"I know that my club will be watching me very closely and if I stay I will be more than happy to do so.

"I’ve had a fantastic time in Turkey, despite the injury this year, and the fans are second to none in my book. I couldn’t be happier there."

Kewell has had a two year deal on the table from coach Frank Rijkaard since December, but negotiations hit a hurdle when he succumbed to groin problems in January, playing just two more games that month before returning to Sydney for surgery.

Ironically, Australia’s master of the unexpected entered Germany 2006 in eerily similar circumstances, working around the clock to be fit for Australia’s curtain-raiser against Japan as a groin injury hampered him and meant constant care from his personal fitness guru Les Gelis.

“I have overcome a lot of hurdles in my career when it comes to injuries,” Kewell said. “The current situation is just another challenge. I never let these things get me down and I still know I can do a job when called on. In football you have to take these things in your stride.”

Looks like our suspicions have been confirmed. Obviously not coming along 'ahead of schedule'
as claimed.
