All Whites' security measures remain unchanged

New Zealand's football bosses have no plans to change security arrangements despite a report in a leading South African newspaper that the World Cup is a target for extremists.

The Sunday Times in Johannesburg reported the United States Congress had been told of potential World Cup threats from Pakistani and Somali militants who were believed to be running training camps in Mozambique.

The All Whites, who arrive in South Africa on June 6, will stay at the Serengeti Estate, a luxury resort between Pretoria and Johannesburg.

New Zealand Football chief executive Michael Glading said he had not read the report, but security measures would not change. "At this point, we haven't had any updated warnings."

Glading said the New Zealand Government had been in constant contact with New Zealand Football about the security situation in South Africa.

A Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokeswoman said: "A routine review of the South African travel advisory is about to be issued in advance of the Fifa World Cup, but it's not in response to any particular stream of reporting."

The ministry currently warns tourists to be wary.

"Because there is a high level of crime in South Africa, including violent crime, you should pay close attention to your personal safety and remain vigilant at all times, particularly after dark when the risk of crime increases markedly," the advisory says. "It may be wise to visit as part of an organised tour. Ensure personal belongings, such as your passports, are out of sight and secure."
