Quote:Controversial Hearts midfielder Laryea Kingston accused of attack on Ghana boss Jun 1 2010 By Gordon Parks
HEARTS midfielder Laryea Kingston has been accused of throwing a World Cup wobbly by trying to punch Ghana boss Milovan Rajevac after being left out of their South Africa bound squad.
Reports suggest the fiery Tynecastle star had to be physically restrained after he was told the bombshell news that he hadn't made the Black Stars' 23-man party.
According to accounts from his homeland, Kingston, who is set to leave the Edinburgh outfit this summer after three controversial seasons at the club, tried to physically assault gaffer Rajevac and launched a furious five minute tirade of abuse at the Serbian coach.
Ghana FA vice-president Fred Pappoe was then said to have intervened in a desperate attempt to subdue a raging Kingston when the decision to axe him from the group was delivered.
Kingston then reportedly screamed at Rajevac: "I swear to God you are not a good coach. You don't know anything about football, you stupid man."
Dropped Ghanaian officials yesterday tried to play down the bust-up and claimed no such attack took place.
But they failed to clarify exactly what happened when Rajevac explained his decision to Kingston and all but admitted the player had reacted to his coach.
FA spokesman Randy Abbey said: "Laryea was on the same flight with the team to Amsterdam. He wished us well in the tournament and left for Edinburgh.
"He never attacked anybody after being dropped. This story about him should be disregarded.
"The truth is that any player dropped will be let down by his inability to play at the World Cup. But it would be nonsensical for anyone to go ballistic at the coach.
"Even Ronaldinho, who has played at the event before, will be down because he couldn't make it this time.
"I must add that everything is fine, and we are moving on with our preparations."
The World Cup snub is a body blow to Kingston after he also missed the last tournament in Germany through suspension.
And he was involved in a club v country row this season when he reported for duty with Ghana despite declaring himself unfit for Hearts.
