bit of a misleading summary:

He hasn't really said that. Whilst "playing for the boys that missed out" is understandable, you'd assume a professional footballer on the world's biggest stage, representing their country would have other motivational thoughts to rely on than just "giving their all" for cut squad members!

i read it as Mark saying that no one who is left in the 23 is going to take their spot for granted as not every footballer gets a chance at playing in the world cup.
