Rio Ferdinand taken for hospital scan

England have been given a scare ahead of the World Cup after captain Rio Ferdinand was taken to hospital for a scan on a knee injury.

The Manchester United defender was injured in a tackle during England’s first training session at their base in Rustenburg.

The 31-year-old started just 13 Premier League games last season and the news is a huge blow to manager Fabio Capello as his side prepare to face the USA in eight days time.

How many players have to get injured during training sessions before the World Cup? Surely Coaches wouldn't be instructing players to stick in a few 100% challenges?
