Cool_Cat is right about playing 3 at the back, it is 'naive' Australia has the exact opposite problem in terms of having to much defense and not enough attack. NZ will get pumped against a defensive minded Italy, but againsts more aggressive nations 3-4-3 is actually not to bad.
