I must say, I've seen quite a bit of media on the WC so far. On TV, in the newspaper, online etc.
I'm pretty sure people know it's going on. The fact if they're at all interested or not, totally realtes to them and if they get into the game or not. Can't force the plucker down anyones throat
If you are not getting enough coverage and relying on it to make you happy, perhaps you need to prioritise your life a bit more :-({|=

in this day and age who cares, Theres a thing called the internet! The world game site is good enough really and why would i bother reading the shit reports they have in the paper by journos which football is their fourth or fifth sport they cover.
Just watch world news on sbs, thats good enough by professionals who actuall know a thing or two about the sport unlike ch7, ch9 and so on who send some idiot that has no clue about the game to SA. Commercial tv in this country is a joke. even ABC is doing a better job then ch7 and 9

Interesting to currently see the number of companies marketing to the Australian market having some form of promotion or advertising incorporating either the Socceroos or the world cup in their advertisements
This is the true reflection of where the real interest of the Australian consumer sits and why advertising dollars are being spent using the Socceroos or the world cup in their branding

Everything is related to 1-Old links built on old money 2-the sports editors that are positioned by the AFL and NRL 3-the sponsored cadetships ,particularly from the AFL 4-the constant negativity towards the sport to try and stall its growth 5-the perceived size of each market.
Everything changes bit by bit.We can't expect things to change overnight, regardless of the fact that demand far outstrips the size of full time football media here. Why would there be a windfall of $800 million to Australian businesses for this World Cup otherwise.
The sooner Australian media try and fill the void that makes us all turn overseas for our info ,the sooner these companies will reap the benefits Unfortunately for the AFL there is other websites besides it own:lol:

I found it very amusing when they ran this story as it had nothing to do with football, or the World Cup but rather the country itself. The thing that amused me the most is that around the same time as it was run there was suicide bombers going off in India (where the Olympics is going to be held soon) and they dont say boo. Its bias media, I'd don't give a shit what they say cause they don't give a shit about my sport. There only mentioning it because they have to, if they could do it there way it would be like how it is in North Korea.

I must say the local newspaper and radio station down here in Bogan Ville have done rather well over the last couple of days
Credit to them
But it will be back to normal after the competition unless we win the cup or we win the WC bid
Wouldn’t that be hilarious?

You're clearly a new Australian Football supporter if you find an alleged lack of media interest surprising.
In most other nations, with the exception of the US, football is their number one - and quite often only publicised sport.
Furthermore, most European countries are in the same time zone, or there abouts, as South Africa. This helps media as well.
Australia has had Sam Stosur, State of Origin, Cross-code jumpers in the media lately because they're all massive stories in this country.
you never mentioned fox sports news in there. this is our premier sports channel, or supposedly, in australia and they dont give the coverage. what im saying, yes there is coverage of the roos, but not enough. i dont hear any news about any other teams though. we want to host this event yet we cant get exposure on our own stations. fox sports news had a 30 minute bulletin and spoke about the world cup for 5 minutes. afl got 15. afl may be the premier sport, but for two month every four years we really need the coverage but dont get it. afl will always be a small sport in a big world and nothing more. australia has to wake up to the world game and give it the coverage it deserves. I didn't mention Fox Sports because they give the game exceptional coverage -- case and point: they've set aside Fox Sports 3 today solely for Socceroos lead-up World Cup games. Watch "The Long Lunch" if you're worried - they generally do a more comprehensive round up. If you're still conflicted, read what I said earlier - In most other nations, with the exception of the US, football is their number one - and quite often only publicised sport.Media organisations still have a duty to publicise other sports - they can't forsake other sports simply because the World Cup is on (as much as we would like them to)

Sometimes people don't see what they choose not to. Well I presume you are not from where Zimbos_05 is from, as too neither is he from where you are located. Going by who Zimbos supports I presume he's from Queensland and I wouldn't be surprised if the Media coverage up there is much more parochial about the 'Aussie sports' especially League. And tbh the crowd troubles both Roar and GCU are not helped by the poor coverage they'd get from the QLD media, even relative to that of the other Australian cities perhaps? And yes, don't underestimate the power, the monopoly Murdoch has on the News Media, especially print, in this country. News Ltd owns most of the major Newspapers we read in Australia, with Fairfax and Kerry Stokes owning the rest, pretty much. And not surprisingly, Brisbane's only main newspaper as I understand it, 'The Courier Mail' is owned by News Ltd as too the Gold Coast's main paper, 'The Gold Coast Bulletin.' The more 'football friendly' papers/sites I notice, are Fairfax, particularly the Sydney Morning Herald, which was several dedicated football journalists in it's ranks like Michael Cockerill and Philip Micallef amongst others, and many of their articles are often posted on this site's forums by Joffa ofcourse! Edit: K Zimbos, I think you are asking a bit much, though I think we understand, may even agree, with your point, in relation to hosting the World Cup. But IMHO I think your idea is a bit, 'Chicken or the Egg.' The coverage WILL come, just as it comes now (Albeit not as much as you'd like, but incidently too much for others like that 'journo' who posted that 'Four year Soccer bore fest' article). The Media interest will ofcourse be bigger than we've ever seen for the sport in this country, come our hosting it - that's for sure! And when it comes to media coverage now, in relation to the bid itself? FIFA couldn't give a rats arse to be honest! It's about our substance and FIFA it seems are already showing quite positive signs towards our bid, especially when we have guys like Beckenbauer now demonstrating how impressed he is. How can you say Fox Sports doesn't give the coverage. During the WC they will have the Castrol World Cup Report EVERY morning. Just today they had the story about Nani, a stpry about Argentina, South Africa and about a prison in South Africa holding their own WC Tournament. That's just in one day.

TV news coverage of the socceroos have been okay so far. Considering football isn't the number one code in this country, its hard to expect the media to pour as much resource or devote as much attention as they already have.
PS. Did anyone catch Neil's interview last night about Wilkshire trying to find a giraffe. Lol

Why would your average Aussie consumer give two shits about a player from Portugal they have never heard of before? Tell your news outlets that this is what you want. Bitching about it on a football forum is preaching to the already converted.

During the WC month and weeks leading into it, we should have so much more coverage than usual. Its bigger than NRL/AFL put together! People often forget that mainstream sporting news content is governed by demand. If enough people provide feedback to the networks that they want to see more football coverage at a superior depth to what is currently being provided, they will listen and say so. All i ever see on the australian media is AFL, NRL, Golf this scandal or that scandal...
One could easily be mistaken for thinking that there is no world cup or australia is even competing in the world cup.
Every other radio or television station i have been watching or listening to around the world has non stop world cup news.
If Australia ever wants to host the world cup, then it is time the australian media changed their view and stance when it comes to the world game. Until we can sort out the problems within our own backyard, we can never be able to welcome the world.
