Germany are a tournament team simple as that. They haven't lost a group stage game since 1986 FFS. That was also the last time they failed to win their opening game. That's 24 years without losing a group stage game and 24 years without failing to win their opening game.
Some people just don't comprehend how much of a problem Germany will be. Their friendly results don't matter, the players don't care about them because they have the mentality that they will get it done when it comes to the WC. They will get the results they need, because their players step up another level when under pressure.
They are the masters of tournament football and I just can't believe some people saying they are over hyped. If anything they are under hyped. As Erebus mentioned, in 2002 they made the final with a team everybody said wasn't good enough.
In 1986 Franz Beckenbaur took a squad which no one expected to the final and lost just 3-2 to a superior Argentinian squad. He famously said that "we don't deserve to win the final with these players. If we win it would be a defeat for football." That there I think proves how good they are in a tournament that their own manager didn't think they were good enough. Eveery World Cup you'll see other teams as bigger favourites than Germany but you can never count the Germans out because they are always there or there abouts.

key things....they probably took malta lightly so 3 goals is not a bad result they got dominated and still won.....:-k argentina on their day can beat anyone.

They are not the Germany of old but they are still world class and will progress to the later stages of the tournament no doubt.
Football is a simple game. 22 players run around a pitch chasing a ball and after 90mins the Germans win.

When was the last time Germany didn't make the quarters?
1938
(thanks FFT for that question to Grella ;) )
They've won like 80% of their opening games or something ridiculous like that. They've won 3 world cups and are one of the favourites to progress in the tournament. They have set their sights on semi finals as the minimum.
No threat at all

Both pose a (serious) threat however Germany are a well drilled world cup nation. More often than not making at least the semi finals, Serbia are yet to prove anything but they do have an impressive squad also.

Im sorry havent u heard of their players and the clubs they play for and how many trophies Germany has won? On paper and off it they are still one of the best teams in the world!!!!!! Will you forgive them for not scoring 90 goals against Malta? Im sure they played their hearts out so they could get injured
