sydneycroatia58 wrote:Just quietly everyone, just in case you didn't know Heineken thinks the Hobbit will be brilliant. :p Well the Hobbit as a Novel leave TLOTR for dead. At least the hobbit was pacey. But I am bouycotting this film for lodging a cease and desist order on a wee little pub who have been paying homagae to the Hobbit and all things Tolkin for over 30 years. http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/18884/the-hobbit-pub-under-threat-from-saul-zaentz-companyQuote: A pub that's been happily trading under the name The Hobbit has come under legal fire from the company behind the upcoming films...
Here's a bit of a crappy story. After 20 years of trading, Southampton pub The Hobbit faces closure. Not because of the tough economic climate, but because the Saul Zaentz company has decided to flex its legal muscles and sent it at a cease and desist order.
Owner Stella Mary Roberts has been told to rebrand at prohibitive cost by the end of May or face legal action. She has been quoted as stating, ‘’we just haven’t got the resources to fight it.’’
Sometimes you have to wonder just what goes through the minds of big entertainment companies – this pub has been plying its trade long before any film trilogy even appeared on-screen, has never been threatened in this way before, but suddenly there’s a new film on the horizon and it’s game over for the little guy.
Now, the pub itself is pretty Tolkien themed, and serves such delights as pints of cocktail (yes pints) named Gandalf, but I doubt it's robbing The Saul Zaentz Company of millions of their profits – wouldn’t drinking in a Hobbit themed pub make you want to see the film more?
Indeed, the sheer ridiculousness of the demand has even united the power trio of Stephen Fry, The Sun, and The Telegraph in support of the pub.
Fry commented on his twitter account, "Honestly, @savethehobbit, sometimes I'm ashamed of the business I'm in. What pointless, self-defeating bullying", while both papers feature the story.
Thanks to his support, the Save the Hobbit Facebook group (found here) now has over 16,000 likes – showing that there a lot of people out there who want to stand up for the right cause, and help fight this latest case of a big company trying to stamp its authority just because it can.

Yeah, typical Hollywood storyline whereby good must triumph over evil.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a great film, everyone is good in it
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

I liked it as well, but I though it was a bit too slow at the start. Once Tom hardy came to into it, it picked up pace and ended up being pretty good. Gary Oldman is boss in that film. Benedict Cumberbatch from Sherlock as well.
Seen a fair few films recently. I'd been intending to read the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo before I saw the film adaptation. Never got round to it though, so i ended up seeing the film last weekend. Tops movie. Really enjoyed it, although I don't get why Daniel Craig is allowed to keep his British accent for a film set in Sweden
Saw the muppets recently as well. I used to love the muppets as a kid. It's a pretty good film if you enjoyed the muppets when you were younger and it's made with a lot of passion as well. Some good celebrity cameos as well.
Watched Contagion the other night, which is another good film. I highly recommend it, very suspenseful with good acting.
