Quote:Ditched Jurassic Park 4 concept art will haunt your nightmaresAs any keen dinosaur-specific cineastes will know, the question of whether or not a fourth Jurassic Park instalment would ever see the light of day has long been a burning one. After all, 2001's third film did a good job of killing off any remaining Jurassic Park good will in audiences, what with its mobile-phone-swallowing dinos and, well, this: Spielberg himself has been alternately enthusiastic and coy on the matter, and yet a script was written around 2005 by William Monahan and John Sayles (and reviewed by Ain't It Cool News in '07) that focused on Nick Harris, a soldier of fortune who John Hammond hires to find Dennis Nedry's can of "shaving cream" from the original film. From AICN's review: "Nick Harris does indeed got to Isla Nublar, but he goes alone. He does indeed track down the shaving cream can that Nedry stole, but that’s a mere five pages later. And as soon as he finds it, he’s attacked not only by excavaraptors (think trapdoor spiders), but also by security rangers who work for Grendel Corporation, the mysterious Swiss holding company that took over Jurassic Park from Hammond. Seems they want those genetic samples for their own purposes... whatever those may be. Nick has to get off the island, evading his pursuers, human or otherwise. He manages to make it back to the mainland just long enough to hide the shaving cream can before the security team catches up with him and gasses him into unconsciousness.
"When Nick wakes up, he’s in the tower of a medieval castle in the Alps. Seriously. That’s the precise moment when the entire enterprise goes so over-the-top loony that you’ll either go along with it for the entire insane ride or reject it roundly as a big bag of ludicrous. Nick is introduced to Adrien Joyce, the major domo henchman of Baron von Drax, CEO of the Grendel Corporation. Joyce isn’t a moustache-twirling bad guy bent on torturing Nick into revealing where he hid the shaving cream can. Instead, he offers Nick a job, and in order to explain the job to him, he has to take him on a tour of the entire castle, which turns out to be a fairly sophisticated genetics lab where Grendel Corporation has been breeding some dinosaurs of their own design, cross-breeds that never existed in any era of nature with all sorts of custom modifications."Sounds wacky, right? Well, in proof that Reddit is good for something other than weirdos posting photos of women's bums in yoga pants, user sketchampm just posted a collection of concept art for the ditched sequel, featuring Grendel Corporation's hideous yet evidently super-smart human/dinosaur hybrids, which might just be the most terrifying things I have seen in ages. Here's - presumably - a raptor-man: http://www.thevine.com.au/entertainment/movies/ditched-jurassic-park-4-concept-art-will-haunt-your-nightmares/

Looking forward to Gangster Squad, Django Unchained, Looper and Skyfall. Just saw it then. Wouldn't say it is awful, just a lot more 'Hollywood' then the first. It can still be enjoyed, just not in the same way as the first.

Highly recommend The Dark Knight Returns Part 1. They really did the comic justice, Batman does not fuck around. Also as a Batman/Joker nerd this ending was brilliant:

So just went and saw Looper, fantastic film. Definitely one of the better movies with an original story line since Inception. Acting was fantastic, and the CGI was well done. Definitely recommend it!

rocknerd wrote:American Reunion: if you came of age with these films, you'll love this, if you didn't maybe not so good. Seconded, plenty of laughs and nostalgia make it a really enjoyable flick. I saw it for the first time a few weeks ago with mates and we were all getting a little emotional with the ending credits just really enforcing that it is an end of an era. EDIT Actually Imo, that movie Warrior I posted the trailer for over the page would be a decent choice. It's got its fair share of violence as it is a movie about fighting, but its a pretty engrossing story and the drama and intensity of the raw emotion to it would certainly be enough to keep the ladies interested, plus it's got Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton shirtless for a good chunk of things. American Reunion: if you came of age with these films, you'll love this, if you didn't maybe not so good. Young Adult: avoid this film, it makes no sense and the lead character is so shallow a little bit of sun would dry her out. Then anythig from the Aptow gallery.

Anyone seen 'Warrior' with Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton?
I watched it last night and have to say I was really impressed, I was expecting a corny fight flick along the lines of 'Never Back Down' but this was just brilliant, very intense and emotional at times. Tom Hardy is a brilliant actor and I've always liked Edgerton, plus Nick Nolte does a very good job as their dad.
Trailer might look cheesy but it's actually a pretty moving story in patches.

Anyone seen Bronson with Tom Hardy? I watched it last night and thought it was brilliant, it's not exactly highly entertaining but I thought it was just brilliantly done, and the way the film combines violence, humour and horror so casually is just phenomenal. Hardy's portrayal of Bronson is brilliant too, he's such an interesting character and Hardy's presence throughout the whole 90 minutes keeps you hooked perfectly.

Some BRUUUUUUTAL kills in there. Thissssssssssssss I couldn't stop laughing at some of the classic throwbacks in that movie. Really loved seeing a modern 80s/90s action flick on the big screen in HD, brought back so many memories of Hard Target, True Lies, Rambo etc etc. Made me realise also how de-sensitized we are in regards to graphic violence haha. -PB

Quote:Worst slump in a decade as Hollywood loses golden touch DateSeptember 11, 2012 - 4:37PM . Horror film The Possession was the highest earner last weekend, taking $US9.5 million. Hollywood has suffered its worst weekend at the American box office since the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks, with analysts blaming a surfeit of sequels and remakes for deterring audiences. Initial estimates suggested the entire gross takings for cinemas in North America would be around $US65 million ($A62.8 million) last weekend, down 20 per cent from the same period a year ago. In September 2001, takings on one weekend fell to just $US59.7 million ($A57.7 million). The Words, which stars Bradley Cooper, was savaged by critics and disappointed at the box office. The results were so bad that the best-performing movie in America, measured in terms of revenue per screen, was Raiders of the Lost Ark, first released in 1981. It was shown on re-release on 267 screens last weekend and took in $US1.7 million ($A1.6 million), at an average $US6460 ($A6244) per screen. Advertisement No single film grossed more than $US10 million over the weekend. The nearest was The Possession, a horror story with no big stars, that took just $US9.5 million ($A9.18 million). Other major releases also disappointed. The Words, starring Bradley Cooper, one of Hollywood's most in-demand leading men, was savaged by critics as "boring" and "turgid", while The Cold Light of Day, an action film starring the British actor Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver, also flopped badly after costing $US20 million ($A19.3 million) to make. It was described by The New York Times as a "catastrophe worth noting only for the presence of its name cast." The Dark Knight Rises has been a rare success story for Hollywood. The Labour Day weekend, which has just passed, is traditionally slow for cinemas, but this year attendances sank to levels which shocked studio executives. It capped a disappointing season for Hollywood, which had expected its biggest ever summer. In a still troubled economy, executives were reluctant to take risks on original concepts and relied heavily on a series of big-budget action films and superhero sequels. The result was the lowest summer movie attendance in 20 years. The number of tickets sold fell to 532 million, down 4 per cent from summer 2011. Two films that were successful - The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises, a Batman film - accounted for almost a quarter of the entire box office return in North America. Before the summer even began, the Disney studio had been forced to incur a $US200 million ($A193 million) writedown over its science-fiction flop, John Carter, in March. Paul Dergarabedian, a box office analyst at Hollywood.com, said: "It is pretty scary when the top movie comes in at only $9.5 million. On paper, the summer of 2012 looked like a clear record-breaker. But the audience is what makes and breaks the summer, and they didn't come out in the numbers we expected for a lot of these films." Factors contributing to the slump included the Olympics on TV. The mass shooting in which 12 people were killed at a screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Colorado in July also put people off. But neither factor was believed to have had a major impact on attendance. Michael Clarke Duncan, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his role as John Coffey in The Green Mile, has passed away at 54 years old. Sad news, i love The Green mile and he is excellent in it.
