Of course he'd say that if he was talking to channel 9 What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Arsene Fears The Socceroos? ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger insists he would not be sleeping well if he was set to face Australia in the opening game of the World Cup, rating the Socceroos a 40 per cent chance of knocking off Germany.Have your say.

Quote:Wenger says Germany losing sleep over Aussies 10 June 2010 Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has said "tough cookies" Australia will be giving three-time champions Germany sleepless nights before their World Cup opener, giving them a strong chance of an upset. Wenger gave the apparently outclassed Socceroos a 40 percent chance of shocking Germany on Sunday, a result which would throw Group D wide open. SYDNEY (AFP) - Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has said "tough cookies" Australia will be giving three-time champions Germany sleepless nights before their World Cup opener, giving them a strong chance of an upset. Wenger gave the apparently outclassed Socceroos a 40 percent chance of shocking Germany on Sunday, a result which would throw Group D wide open. "If I was the national team coach of Germany and I had to play Australia, I wouldn't sleep well," Wenger told Australia's Channel Nine TV network. "Let's say for me it will be 60 (percent chance for) Germany, 40 Australia. "I give them a chance against Germany but we'll see. It will be very interesting." Australia beat the odds to reach the last 16 of the 2006 World Cup before being controversially ousted by eventual winners Italy. They are currently ranked 20th in the world to Germany's sixth. "Usually they are very tough cookies in the World Cup, Australia," Wenger said. "Sometimes Germany are slow starters in the big competitions, maybe Australia can take advantage of that because it will make it a very interesting group." Australia will also face Ghana and Serbia in Group D. http://au.soccerway.com/news/2010/June/10/wenger-says-germany-losing-sleep-over-aussies/

"Australia can be expected to offer anything but a great spectacle".....haha! coming from Germany, the most thrilling national team in World Football....NOT!!!!!
Keep on discounting the Socceroos Germany....makes you wonder if they saw Australia in 2006?

As concerned as I am that we won't be Germany, I rate ourselves more against Germany than when we played against Brazil in 2006. 40 percent sounds about right!
Not to get ahead of ourselves but germany is a better prospect to grab points than to grab points over a 2006 and 2010 brazilian team.
And Miroslav klose isn't the same as he was in 2006 where he dominated. no home advantage for you either ;)

Speaking from my heart, I think we can and will beat them
Speaking from my head, I wouldn't bet on us but wouldn't discount us either

Joachim Low wrote:Australia is all about top organisation, incredible work-rate and almost a perfect defence. Not with Craig Moore at the back we arent. But he can think that, and then hopefully (well obviously he will) underestimate our attack and not focus so much on his own defence, which is where we can stun them. Any attack with Tim Cahill and Harry Kewell in it is going to cause some problems no matter who theyre playing.

I hope we beat them as much as anyone, but i think we may have drifted far from reality when thinking back to 2006. As far as I can recall we only won 1 game out of the 4 we played... that is hardly an intimidating world cup performance.

Its the Serbs and Ghana dismissing us that wrankles me!! From everything I have read, the Germans are probably the ones in our group that are taking us the most seriously. I see us getting 4 points out of this group. A scoreless draw with the Serbs, and a 2 - 0 win over Ghana.
