Quote:I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone.
At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. That is the resolve of His Majesty's Government-every man of them. That is the will of Parliament and the nation.
The British Empire and the French Republic, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their native soil, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength.
Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail.
We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old." All you need.

'YOU CAN DO IT, ALL GAME LONG!'
'This is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill, Fifteen percent concentrated power of will, Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain, And a hundred percent reason to remember the name - so make them remember your name!'

"Hold your ground, hold your ground! Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you *stand, Men of the West!* "

If they need a motivational speech then they shouldn't be there! There'll be no lack of emotions.

He should say something like this:
"Nobody is expecting you to win, or even get a draw. Nobody except all those kids back in Australia whose parents have let them wake up early to watch the game. Kids like Brad Jones' little boy. Kids like you once were, kids who run out on the park every Saturday and give it everything they've got..."
But he's Dutch, and I'm not sure he understands that Aussie way of thinking. More likely he will just keep it like a usual game, tell them to focus on whatever he's been doing in training, and just say "good luck". Maybe keeping the emotions in check is not a bad thing, it's not like you need to fire up a guy like Tim Cahill...

Quote:The Socceroos are once again taking on the world – at the 2010 World Cup. And to get into the spirit here on Radio National Breakfast, we're holding our Socceroo Challenge and we want your inspiration. Use the form below to enter.
Imagine you've been invited into the dressing room to fire the team up. We want the words you would deliver to the Socceroos ahead of their group games against Germany, Ghana, or Serbia.
Your entry should be 75 words or less. Think about it. History is full of examples of great motivational speeches – be it on the sporting field, the battle field – or some other field of contest – representing your country is an emotional challenge.
Over the next couple of weeks we will select the best entries to read on air, and also play some great inspirational addresses from the past, to get you inspired for the task! Entries will close on Friday June 18th and we will announce the winners on RN Breakfast on Wednesday 23 June – the day before Australia plays Serbia.
The winning entry will win a digital radio thanks to the ABC Shop with eight selected runners up receiving either an ABC DVD or book pack, one of five ABC Magazines packs or one official FFA Bid 'Come Play' ball and scarf pack.
Entries close Friday June 18 at midnight and winners will be announced on air Wednesday 23 June. More information at Radio National Breakfast Some contributions so far: Quote:Remember your first pair of boots? Your first jersey? Your first team? Remember how you couldn't wait to run on the field with your mates? Lads, this is the same game. There's just a few more people watching. Go out there and make your mum smile. Go out there and make your dad proud. Enjoy the game. I'm going to fire up the barbie and cook the snags. You go out there and earn them. Quote:There was a movement at the stadium, for the world had passed round That the cup from Old Europe had arrived today, And joined the prizes sought by Australians --- it was worth an Ashes victory in the fray, So the Socceroos had mustered within Pim Verbeek's sight --- inspiring teamwork in the heart For the Socceroos love hard competition, And all Australians sense the battle with delight.
