The thing that pissed me off was the South African "rapper" guys. Like seriously, that's just pathetic. This is a South African world cup, the last thing I want to see are a bunch of wankers wishing they were American.

Santo Sam and Eds world cup fever. it's on 8.30pm every night during the world cup. I love Santo, he was hilarious during the Late Show days, he's still got it too.
Nice to see Dukes on the show, looks like he's coming back to it and will make a regular thing out of it. YES! It was much better than I expected tbh. Diego Maradonuts

Quote: The Olympics put all their effort into the opening ceremonies to try and outdo eachother because the event itself is kinda meh. Thats all people look forward to at the Olympics - the opening ceremony, yet at the WC, people look forward to the actual games. The opening ceremony is just a formality. The fact that half the stadium was empty for it highlights this whereas the stadium was full when the game kicked off.
I actualy love the events at the Olympics as well as the opening ceremony. I'm pretty sure there are many people around the world who share the same opinion. If people at the WC only want to watch the games (empirical data / references please) then why do they stage the ceremony at all? If only for formaility, then maybe a more formal ceremony would be sufficient. Edited by jollyrodger: 12/6/2010 03:35:42 PM

World cup opening ceremonies just dont do it for me but whatever, others do enjoy them. Bring on the football. Cant wait for england to beat USA :P

everytime they did a close up shot, 3 or 4 every now and then would have earphones stuck in their ears, almost as if to say "Can't be fucked listening to this tribal music, i'm gonna listen to a bit of Jason Derulo for a while"   Have you not seen performers on stage (ie popstars etc) have earpieces in their ears before? Its so they can hear the music they are singing/dancing to. Its easier than putting a billion foldback speakers all over the stadium that would ruin the spectacle and be a nightmare to cable and have functioning correctly. #-o #-o And no, you can't use the speakers the crowd is listening to because a) they are facing the wrong way b) there will be too much of a delay by the time the sound reaches the performers Also, since when is the WC opening ceremony anything awesome? I laughed so hard the whole time.
The unfurrling of the FIFA WC flag with the people worked pretty well though. Also, Soccer City Stadium looks awesome. Thank god the game was brilliant.
Did anyone else feel the same. Am I being too harsh on the festivities? You know what the problem with the internet is - it gives everyone who access it 'a voice'. That is, people are given the opportunity to submit their opinion to others. And most people with a voice will use it to bitch and whine and moan about anything, and spare nothing. In times past, you used to have to have something decent to say before your opinion was heard. It's a shame those times are gone. Are you Stephen Conroy ?? I'm so happy that we are still allowed to write what we feel. If an internet filter comes through, I think you may want to revisit your post (if 442 is not RC'd). Which by the way is you giving your opinion. Read my post again. I winge and moan. And congratulate !

watched Die Hard instead while the Opening Ceremony was on The Winter Olympic ceremony in Vancouver was just shy of genius. Did you watch it? I agree many are tacky (Sydney Olympics rating high on that list), but this one was just flabbergasting  Die Hard was a good move :)
