WE WE CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!! HAVE NO FEAR! Lucas Neil needs to be stripped of the captaincy also. I'm tired of his inferiority complex on show ever since he got off the plane What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Kewell: We Can Still Progress? SOCCEROOS veteran Harry Kewell remains adamant Australia can still reach the second round of the World Cup despite the humiliating 4-0 loss to three-time winners Germany in their opening group game.Have your say.

Backlash wrote:Bloody Oath we can. Time for some of the youngsters to step up and be counted :D On that point, the following observations from TWG are worth noting: Quote:Verbeek says his selection criteria has nothing to do with age and experience, rather whom he believes are the best players for the job at hand.
"If I had better players than the players I have, I would bring them in," he said this week.
"I don't look if they are 30, 35 or 18. I just look for the best players available."
It suggests he is most likely to rely on his old guard to lift themselves for one last effort before heading off to their post-international football Zimmer frames.
But for those who unfairly blame Verbeek's selections during his reign for stymying the growth of those underneath the older players, remember this.
The mid to late-20s players coming through now were in national team age squads at a time the sport's then-governing body was broke, battling and without a proper development plan for young Australian players.
Soccer Australia toyed with not sending a Socceroos squad to the 2002 Oceania Nations Cup for cost reasons before sending a third-string team in at the 11th hour.
So imagine how scant the resources were devoted to the then-youth players now trying to make their senior mark.

CMON AUSTRALIA! pim was right not to risk kewell for the whole game against germany but had it all wrong not starting bresc or kennedy (the reason why the germans went forward at will - there would be no consequences for them having numbers forward. after all, who was going to score? garcia? culina? HA).
if pim plays bresc, kennedy, kewell, and emerton all on the park at once we will not have a problem, as all of those players will be feared by the defense, leading to a more balanced game. they might not be able to win it, but they can sure as hell try / do better than on sunday.

We all have to remember that a loss to Germany was compensated in the plan. Any form of points against them was just a bonus but we were always planning on picking up on Ghana and Serbia. I am confident we can get through, just need to show some passion and heart- that Aussie spirit.

Still gutted at Pim and Neill's throwing of the game against the Germans. Wrong time to start experimenting Pim. And how about starting a striker and playing positive football and not getting our best midfielder red carded out of frustration? I think Neill should not even start, never rated him and can't stand a captain who touts a loss. Harry's right though, we CAN still qualify although probably need to ignore Pim to do it. Used to like the guy but he has a long way to go to win back respect!

Most of us haven't written off the team we are just gutted by the apparent defeatest attitude of Neale, verbeek and others towards Germany that became a self-fulfilling prophecy encouraged by bad tactics and selections. Maybe its the Dutch way but this is not the Australian way to do things, and it shocked most of us. Compare this with minnow New Zealands attitude towards the Italy game regardless of what the result is going to be they still believe they can win we never once did...it's poles apart!! Neal's public attitude prior to the game is a national disgrace!! Many bridges to be rebuilt here so let's get it rolling with Ghana!! No excuses this time.

I've finally gotten over the loss and am willing to think that, at the moment, anything is possible for our lads.
Our current plight is amazingly similar to that faced by the Ukraine in 2006.
In 2006, UKRAINE had its opening game against one of Europe's powerhouse nations: ESPANA
Here's what unfolded at Zentralstadion, Leipzig
1. UKR down 2-0 at half time 2. UKR have a player sent off after half-time 3. UKR lose 4-0 4. The UKR team is demoralised and their press are scathing in criticism.
What happened next gives me hope for our future in this tournament.
5. UKR won its next 2 matches: 4-0 win against Saudi Arabia and 1-0 against Tunisia 6. UKR went on to play in the 1/4 finals

what does kewell know? lets forget about kewell and put our hopes on Garcia and Hollman, both looked utterly stunning against germany.

All us Soccerro fans want is for the team to do their best....if they bow out of WC, it is not the players at fault, its the wrong tactics...we need Josh kennedy and Kewell for the Ghana match...Go the Socceroos

Betting odds for us winning has dropped to 3.95 compared Ghana's 1.95 (or there abouts). I remember seeing before the tournament we were pretty close.

DR1964 while that Ukraine example is very heartening, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia are very very different opposition to Ghana and Serbia. Will be a much tougher assignment for us. Plus these sort of examples are always the exception to the rule. I'm sure there are more examples out there of teams losing their first game convincingly and dropping out of the tournament. I'm an avid socceroos supporter and want nothing more than for them to prove me wrong and succeed. But I'm just trying to keep things in perspective

As long as we don't gain a whole lot of yellow cards against ghana, thus dismissing half the team from the final game against serbia then perhaps we will have a chance. (that hoard of yellow cards from the first game was pathetic esp how some of them were accrued)
