Since when has the Australian public not been behind the team? Just maybe the general love for this team is why its so hurtful to see them torn to shit. But no, all we keep hearing from the 'Roos is how unfair and unsupportive we've (media and public) all been. What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Socceroos: We'll Show You...? SOCCEROOS veteran Scott Chipperfield says the team will use the scathing criticism it has received back home as added motivation for Saturday night's crunch World Cup encounter against Ghana in Rustenberg.Have your say.

It's worry that the players think that the public aren't behind them.
That result tonight really does spice things up.
My new group predictions: Germany: 6 Ghana: 4 Australia: 4 Serbia: 3
Although I'd prefer: Ghana: 6 Australia: 6 Germany: 3 Serbia: 3

He points to the fact that the players did not play to the tactics set for them. Is that maybe because the tactics were only sprung on you 4 hours before kick off??!!
We are behind you boys!! Just very dissapointed at the performance against Germany.

Given all the yellow cards between Germany & Serbia tonight, does anyone know who might be suspended for Serbia next match?

I was hoping Zigic would get a card so he'd be out. The player who handballed was Kuzmanovic, but he didn't get a red card. Lukovic got a red card in an earlier incident, and he didn't play tonight.

The only thing that sent tingles down my spine in the Germany match was the Aussie Anthem. You could hear the gusto Aussies in the crowd well above the Vevuzela's. I don't think any other nation sings it so proudly. It was just downhill from that point...

Posted this elsewhere, but it's probably more relevant here.
I don't bother listening to any analysis or opinions about Australian Football, unless the analyst is a football person, who has played the game to a reasonable level.
I have no problem with any journalist reporting the FACTS about any topic.
You don't need to an expert or experienced in a particular field to report FACTS.
However, if someone is going to analyse the performance of a person's technical abilities - be it surgical ability, engineering ability, car mechanic ability, cooking ability, etc - then, unless that person has also attained a reasonable level of skill in that particular field, his/her opinion is as important as my opinion or anyone else's on this forum - i.e. ZERO importance.
Only a surgeon can provide informed opinion on the surgical proficiency of another surgeon; only a car mechanic can provide informed opinion about the skills of another car mechanic; and, only a professional footballer can offer informed opinion about the technical proficiency of a professional footballer.
It's about time sports journalists started reporting the FACTS, and leaving op-ed pieces to those who are qualified to give op-ed pieces.
So, I was thrilled to see Harry have a go at a guy like Mike Cockerill, who has done nothing on the football field, but thinks he's qualified to give opinions about footballers.
Report the facts, Mike - that's your job. Leave the analysis to those, who've played the game to a decent level.

Its sad to hear a player say they beleive the public are not behind them. THe reaction means quite the opposite tbh.
I was gutted to see the 4-0 drubbing by Germany but worst was imo we didn't go out there thinking we could win the game...at all. Thats why people are so pissed off.
I think pim got scared. ITs that simple.
Its behind us now. We must win the next two and the team is capable of two wins.
The country is behind you thats why we all get up in the middle of the night at 1 degree above zero and watch the game.
Just win and get us into the final 16 please......

If you look how Serbia played last night (yes, outplayed in so many ways), their mental state was unbeatable. Each time they defused German attacks and saved the penalty, they reminded Germany they are not going to be pushed around. If we showed some of this spirit tonight, where we hunt in packs, defend in packs, back everyone up whether it is a 40m run downfield to support a Harry break, we need to do it.
There are so many countries in other groups that are showing the spirit of a true national team and how to defeat their competitiion, that we need to learn again.

Are you kidding, DR1964? So I can only offer informed analysis if I've been a professional footballer?
This is one of the more retarded things I've ever read on this forum.
There is a shitload of people who have never played football to a reasonable level who are fantastic coaches, pundits and journalists. Conversely, there's people who have played the game who wouldn't have a fucking clue about being a pundit or journalist, and can't read the game or offer analysis worth shit.
I'm not saying Cockerill is a quality journalist but your reasoning is terrible.
That'd be like sa

scouse_roar wrote:Are you kidding, DR1964? So I can only offer informed analysis if I've been a professional footballer? Yup. That's exactly what I'm saying. If you are going to provide opinion/commentary on a person's technical prowess and proficiency then your views are ill-informed and worthless unless you have experience with those technical abilities, which will usually be acquired by actually working in that particular field or by acquiring formal and accredited qualifications in that technical field. Again, I repeat. 1. If you're not a surgeon - but, merely a journalist, who is assigned to cover "health and fitness stories" - and you try to give me advice on my surgical skills, I'll laugh in your face. 2. If you're not a chef - but, merely a journalist, who is assigned to cover "stories about food/restaurants" - and you try to give me advice on my culinary skills, I'll laugh in your face. The opinions proffered by any journalist, who has no qualifications in a particular field, is worthless, ignorant and ill-informed - i.e. it's of ZERO importance.

Gents & Ladies. Critism is fine. All on this blog who critise, do so on the coach his tactics, player selection. The players value etc. And I am fine with that, but some of the outright abuse I have seen on this blog and other media is just staggering. Whatever our boys do, they are OUR team and we should stand behind them 100%. These attacks are not only from non-Footballing factions but also Football factions e.g Fozzie calling for a rebellion in the team against the coach, let all thank God he loves the game. There is constructive critisim and then there is just agenda pushing.

I may not agree with Pim's tactics against Germany, but he got us to the World Cup without a hiccup. Part 1 of the job was completed successfully and Australia was the 2nd team to qualify for South Africa 2010. Part 2 of the job is to emulate the success of 2006. So far we've lost 1 Group Game, against one of the strongest teams in the world - just like in 2006. And, I just love Verbeek's attitude to the media. He says exactly what I've been thinking. ............... Verbeek hits back at the media ...Australia coach Pim Verbeek on Friday hit back at his media critics and rubbished reports of bust-ups and divisions in the Socceroos’ World Cup camp since a 4-0 defeat by Germany. "I think the Australian media are fantastic", Verbeek said with heavy sarcasm on the eve of his side's second match, against Ghana. "I heard a lot of my players use the word rubbish and I fully agree with that word. But we live in a free world so you can write what you like "I live in a professional world and I know what I am doing. So — especially if they are writing this kind of rubbish — I don’t care.".................... Totally agree, Pim. Pay no attention to journalists, who have no football qualification and no football cred. Edited by DR1964: 19/6/2010 06:58:42 PM
