I'm starting to think the game in Australia is very low on FIFA's agenda.

Croatia - Aussie manager inexplicably leaves out best keeper and selects bench-warmer from Italy.
Italy - experienced defender dives in and gives Italian the option to fall over in the box.
Germany - Aussie manager inexplicably leaves out two best attacking players.
Ghana - Aussie player handles ball on line blocking a goalbound effort (honestly, if it had been the other way around everyone here would have been calling it a cast-iron penalty).

Nar, I like joffa's reasons better except maybe include for ghanas.Ghanaian player not sent off and instead given a yellow for a harsh tackle (which is at least on par with cahills, if not worse!) If it really only deserved a yellow, it justifies that cahills one was only a yellow and that he should have played.

Hey at least we scored first in a World Cup game, for a short while it was good to be in control of a game.

You're right about the first three. You can't just blame the referees. Though they were definitely contributing factors, I think the damage was already done by the time Cahill got sent packing.

Tbh, I'd have been crying for a penalty until I realised that I was COMPLETELY WRONG.

Here's a complete summary about how we have been shafted in the World Cup:

Aus vs Japan - Clear foul on Schwarzer not paid, goal conceded as a result.
Aus vs Brazil - One of the 2 goals offside
Cro vs Aus - First of all, Viduka hauled to the ground rugby style by that traitor Simunic. Then, one of the Croatins in the second half
gets away with punching the ball clear in the box, should have been a red there straight up. Then the 2 yellow card saga of course and also the disallowed goal after full time.
Italy vs Aus - Neill slides in and is lying prone on ground, Grosso pushes the ball to his right but elects to run straight over Neill and fall over for a clearly simulated dive. On a side note, that ref was the fourth official in the World Cup final that looked at the TV replay and radioed the referee on the pitch to send off Zizou (none of the linesman or referee saw the incident so therefore the red card sbouldn't have occurred as FIFA regulations say fourth officials may not give advice to the on field referee based on video evidence viewed pitchside).

Takashi Fukunishi came close to restoring Japan's lead but his effort from the edge of the area was wide. Japan also had a penalty appeal turned down when Cahill appeared to commit a foul in the area. They were soon to count the cost when Cahill added a second five minutes later

Also Materazzi's red card was not a red. Took down Bresciano yes but was not denied a clear goalscoring opportunity with distance to goal and another Italian defender on par with Marco keeping pace
