If we can somehow get past Serbia and make the next round, it would be FANTASTIC to see Cahill and Kewell back in the team. What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Pim: Should Harry Cut His Arm Off?? AUSTRALIAN coach Pim Verbeek says Harry Kewell would have had to cut his arm off to avoid the ball in the incident in which the Socceroos veteran was sent off for a deliberate handball during the 1-1 draw with Ghana.Have your say.

I have to say that last night I was quite excited to see Harry back in the green and gold again. It was a shame how it ended for him.

ive had enough of referee's ruining matches....whats the point of spending money on your team, going to all of the games...then in the final a ref gives a bad decision and the dream is all over... happening once or twice fair enough...but its happening all of the time now...champions league final last year, semi final of the champions league...A-league grand finals, world cups...it never stops..im so sick of it

Watching it again this morning, Harry was moving away from the fucking ball, not towards it. Do FIFA actually pay these idiots? Do they get a penalty when they screw up? Wake up Sepp and join the 21st century and improve the refferreing. 2,3 how many? The modern game is too quick for 1. Idiots!

I reckon this is all an effort from FIFA to make sure Ghana gets through to the next round. They probably want to make sure as many African teams as possible get through to the next round, because thats 2 ridiculous red cards, 1 can be an accident, but 2 in a row is a bit sus.

It was the most obvious red card for handball one could ever see.

Kewell will get another week to rest his stapled groin before the game against the US in the next round.

Interesting comments from Mark Shields in the Murdoch organ: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/world-cup-2010/harry-kewells-handball-was-a-straight-red-card-says-top-aussie-referee/story-fn4l4sip-1225881956506Quote:
Mark Shield, who was Australia's leading official until he retired in 2008, insisted "you do not see a clearer case of handball on the goalline" after Kewell was dismissed for blocking a Ghanaian shot in the Socceroos' 1-1 draw yesterday.
Shield said there were two crucial factors that dictated both the award of a penalty and Kewell's expulsion after less than half an hour.
"The key fact is the shot was hit from so far away (roughly 10m) it gave Harry the chance to get out of the way - it couldn't be regarded as ball to hand," he said.
"At the last World Cup we were briefed that a ball hit hard from two or three metres away might not be viewed as intentional handball, but Harry was three or four times as far away.
"Not only that but he also makes a small but definite move towards the ball with his arm - for whatever reason, as the ball came to him Harry's arm stayed stiff and that's handball.
"It's so unfortunate that it was Harry Kewell and Australia, but Roberto had no option but to give the penalty and send him off."
So in other words, Kewell's expected to get his arm out of the way even while he's trying to get his chest to the ball. Seriously???? If you watch that shot at full speed, I'm not sure he really had a chance to do either. I don't see how you rule that intentional, as Shield is effectively doing. I dont think it was intentional, but his arm cleary connected with the ball to deny a goal, which is a red card.

FIFA's doing a pretty shit job then:lol: . Cameroon eliminated, South Africa and Nigeria likely to follow. Ghana and Ivory Coast are the only realistic chances, but I reckon both might not make it. btw lets admit it, if a Ghana player did what Kewell "did", we would have been screaming for red and praising the decision. Just saying.

was a very harsh penalty... but there is a train of thought coming out of Sth Africa that FIFA wants at least a couple of African teams through to the last 16... would they want that? Of course Sepp "I'm a corrupt bastard" Blatter would want that... and what Sepp wants, Sepp gets... just ask Frank Lowy....

Neil Evans wrote:It was the most obvious red card for handball one could ever see. No, THIS is the most obvious... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H409aCV8fWo&feature=player_embedded... and therefore, of course, it was not picked up by the ref.
