I personally didn't predict this result but it wasn't entirely unlikely. NZ was impressive against us in Melbourne and defeated Serbia in a WC warm-up. Italy on the other hand have been impotent without Pirlo and struggled badly in their WC warm-ups as well as their opening game.

All of that being said, I still think Paraguay will deliver a very nasty wake-up call to the Kiwis in their last game.

Been sayin this the whole time they're are great players in the A-league. Definitely better than Craig Moore who got carved up against Ghana. Collosimo would be 100 times better. Good on the all whites showing what the a-league is made of LOVE IT!!!

That was nothing compared to the look of wide-eyed terror on some of the Socceroos' faces vs Germany :shock:

THe sad truth about Verbeeks assessment on the A-league is that he nailed them as "none contenders" without even giving it a second thought. That was the wrong line to take considering the limited options he really had.

I'm not saying that particular players from the A-league shouyld have gone (that another debate) I'm more aiming at the fact the anyone in the A-league was instantly tagged as no good.

Once they got on a plane and flew 12,000 miles around the would they suddenly became fantastic ie Tommy Oar, Nikita Ruk..., etc....

Talent doesn't occur overnight on a plane.

If only Pim Verbeek had taken with him some of the better players from the A-League and had got rid of some of the geriatrics there. Good on New Zealand for doing well and lifting the profile of the A-League.

NZ may be doing it for NZ, but they have completely exposed verbeek and his assessment of the A league.

In rugby and basketball I have always supported Australia and anybody playing against NZ, but I have to admit, I hope the "Allwhites" get through their group so I will have somebody to support in the next round.

If Herbert was to be the next Socceroos coach, I would only be disappointed because of the dissruption to the NZ programme it would cause.

Since verbeek's critique of the A League I have always felt a bit like I was watching a second best game, and found it hard to get enthused, but my faith has been revived and I can't wait for the League to recommense.

I will be going to my first fixtures this season, and they will be when Pheonix are visiting NSW.

How good was Paston!? Very athletic with his dives, and strong hands to save that powerful shot with one hand.

As an A League fan, its great to see how Aleague players can step up and play at high standard.
