A month ago most Australian football fans were questioning just why coach Pim Verbeek continued to stick with Holman

This is so true, I was one, happy to admit it. But after his last goal I suggested the same thing when I noticed all the forumites suddenly acting as if he is some kind of god when only a month before he was the devil and some one here actually said it was crap, as if Holman has always been a god.

What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Holman Living The Dream?
LOST in all the debate over whether Harry Kewell deserved to be sent off during the 1-1 draw with Ghana was yet another massive contribution for the Socceroos by one of the country's most maligned players Brett Holman.

Have your say.

nice goal and he has and is improving, but he did turn the ball over a fair bit again, as did culina

I always thought he was good enough, and I always wanted him as a starter for us.

I forget who it was, but someone suggested that all the Holman love seemed to come from newly registered members on this site and that they therfore "knew nothing about football". Damn, you look dumb now.

He will be one of our best and most important players by next world cup.

Everyone is entitled to his opinion but the reality is Holman is a first division first team regular in Holland and Carle couldn't get a start in a second division bottom team in England. That's what is called reality.

Hey Stiflers, kudos to you for being honest. At first, I too was not a fan, but his work ethic and class in the face of criticism won me over about a year ago. I couldn't have been happier to see him score, and I actually think its his third goal for Australia.
I also hoped that Jesse Fink might have thrown some credit his way after the way he attacked him in regards to Nick Carle, but no... the increasingly irrelevant Fink has decided to kick another man whilst down, Harry Kewell. What a pathetic damp squib he is... but I digress. Well done Brett, congrats on a great goal, you are now in some absolute elite Australian football company and keep up the good work!!

Took his goal well, but does NOT cover up the fact he has no quality on the ball we expect from an attacking player.

I'll admit it too, I was a Holman Hater... I understood why he got a run, but didnt agree with the decision to keep him at the expense of other more technically gifted players... but happy to be proven wrong. His performances have certainly been much stronger than many of the other more seasoned player and he has answered his critics in the best way possible, with strong performances on the field. Well done BH!

I'd start him up front in place of Harry? He has the engines and the pace. Would be 100 times better than Cahill in this position.

I didn't agree with what people thought on the last game with BH. TBH he works very hard and puts pressure onto the opposition which is rare in our team (for some reason). ITs his passing and shooting which lets him down.

His positional play is very good. He's always running to the right spot but gets let down with his ability on the ball. He tightened up on his passing/touch for a few of the last games but re-appeared against Ghana and it put our defense under a lot of pressure for no reason other then sloppy play. Having said that he wasn't alone here with Brett Emerton having a similar problem. To be fair with both the Ghana players made sure they pressured us everytime we got the ball too.

BH will/could be a great player for the NT if he gets the shooting and passing going because that is what is letting him down.

Good ol Holminho

I still have the same opinion of him but will admit he has risen since the friendlies for the world cup has started.

Hopefully he keeps this up and throughout the next qualification process, doesn't revert back to the old Holman.

 I was a massive Holman hater but that's changed lately he really has stepped it up a notch as has Valeri.

I think all the stuff before the WC about him not deserving to be there and not being good enough really spurred him on.

As for where he plays next match with Cahill coming back I'd start him on the left with Ruka upfront. His engine will help drag Ivanovic out of position allowing space for Ruka to drop into pulling Vidic/Lukovic out of position to allow Cahill to make those late runs into the box that he does so well.

To all those who previously hated Holman and were jerking off over Carle. And to all those that prefer to criticize rather than support. This is from the bottom of my heart and I'm sure Brett Holman himself would agree:

That's true. I am acting like a prat. Apologies.

However, it makes me wonder when (Not if) this will happen again.

Last time it was Luke Wilkshire. This time it's Brett Holman. Who is next?

I feel like people hate(d) Brett Holman not because of their good judgement, but because it was popular opinion and people thought it was funny scapegoating him. Heck, I think most people aren't being 'genuinely' gracious about Holman now, I think people are just going along with popular public opinion. They just do whatever everyone else is doing.

TBH it doesn't help anyone to wack your team players with verbal abuse. However their is nothing wrong with constructive comments.

I stand by my opinion on BH and believe he has the talent to go further if he works on the obvious deficency in his game.

As for starting him in the next match I currently disagree. He is great to bring on as a sub toward the end when the opposition is tied. Him running at them and putting on pressure creates mistakes and space for the team at the dying end. I would keep it this way tbh.

In my opinion Valeri should start in a single DM role with culina pushed forward. Bresc, Tim and Brett Emerton in midfield with Josh up front.

Lets forget about the other sides and play for a confident win. If we win 3-0 then we can only do what we can do.
