Someone needs to tell the ref that gel went out in the 80's.

Then again, he looks like an old schooler... probably still uses lemon juice and olive oil. Idiot.

I agree 100 percent of course the detractors will disagree, but all everyone asks for is consistency in the decisions. I personally think coaches should of come out before the game and try to put little bit of pressure on refs to be even handed. They then may be reluctant to give a penalties and red cards. The games are too often being decided by the refs.

Referees not giving Australia a fair go: Cahill
TIM YOUNG, JOHANNESBURG
June 21, 2010 - 7:35AM

Red cards and yellow cards... midfielder Tim Cahill says the odds are always stacked against the Socceroos.

Australians might pride themselves on the fact they are willing to give everyone a fair go, but it is a courtesy Tim Cahill believes is not being extended in the opposite direction - especially by referees.

The Socceroos are still smarting after red cards in their first two games robbed them of two of their best players, with Cahill forced out of the match against Ghana and now Harry Kewell ineligible for the final group clash with Serbia.

Cahill would not condemn Italian referee Roberto Rossetti, who gave Kewell his marching orders, but hinted he wasn't happy with the officiating that has seen Australia down a man for over 90 minutes in their first two games.

"I don't know what position we've ever been in where the odds have been with us," he said.

"I think for us, as a nation we've never been given the fair go.
But this is it, the mentality is we're very positive and we're a team."

Cahill was in tears following his dismissal against Germany, and today called it the hardest night of his life. The Everton midfielder says he is filled with sympathy for Kewell, whose international career may have ended in Rustenberg.

"Obviously it's going to be a very hard week for H (Harry)," he said. "We're professionals and we have to accept this whether the decisions are borderline."

"It's one of these things, in two games, two red cards is hard to take, but how can we change the decision?"

With Kewell suspended, regular marksman Tim Cahill will bear the brunt of expectation where goals are concerned. Australia needs to score heavily in their final game against Serbia, and hope Ghana can beat Germany, to progress to the knockout stage.

Richard Garcia or Josh Kennedy look most likely to replace Kewell up front, while Michael Beauchamp may step in for Craig Moore, who has been ruled out following two yellow cards.

Defender Luke Wilkshire said Moore's absence will give another player a chance to step up.

"It's disappointing to be without Moorey," he said. "He played very well yesterday."

"With a bit of luck we can finish a game with 11 men and hopefully we can get a very good result."

Energetic midfielder Brett Emerton praised his club's performance against Ghana, and said the Socceroos have regained their confidence.

"The vibe around the camp this morning is probably better than it's been so far," he said. "We can't wait for the next game."

"Anything's possible in football. I think we've definitely got what it takes to win the game and hopefully go into he next round."

The problem, of course, is the consistency of the referees decision. Just look what other teams like Brazil are getting away with..

Cahill also says he thinks England are failing to deliver because of excess pressure:
Quote:
Tim Cahill insists it is not a shock that England have flopped so far in the World Cup.

The Everton and Australia midfielder reckons Fabio Capello’s side are playing under intense pressure and are struggling to meet expectations.

Cahill sat next to England assistant coach Stuart Pearce as he served his one-game ban for being sent of against Germany – and he is still hoping for a last 16 meeting with his Premier League mates.

Australia need to beat Serbia this week and see Ghana beat Germany to qualify, with England’s group providing the knockout round opposition.

Cahill said: “I saw Stuart Pearce and said hello. He was sitting behind me in the stands. I think England are a great example to show how difficult it is. They’re one of the most expensive teams in the world and they’re struggling to win a game. I can’t imagine the amount of pressure they’re under.

“England may well not go through but I’m not surprised. America’s a good team, Slovenia’s a good team. I think people need to be a bit more educated on how good the teams are who we are playing against.

“I do hope England go through though. It’d be good to meet them but first we’ve got to beat Serbia.”
