* The vuvuzela (also known as a lepatata) is a long, plastic horn which emits a loud rasping noise when blown into, estimated at 127 decibels. Although usually associated with South African football fans, the horn has actually been used in Mexican stadiums since around the 1970s.

Prague: Czech public television network CT is putting a sock into vuvuzelas at World Cup games in South Africa.

"As of Monday, CT has installed an audio filter ... which to a great degree reduces out the incessant drone of vuvuzelas," it said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The filter reduces certain sound frequencies, so blocking out a large part of the vuvuzela sound."

It said it was responding to the wishes of viewers "who in recent days have widely commented the annoying drone of vuvuzelas ... so popular among South African fans."
