A cool head speaks. Forza Lowy

What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Lowy's Praise For Lionheart Roos?
FFA chairman Frank Lowy has lavished praise on the character of the Socceroos after they bowed out of the World Cup despite a 2-1 win over Serbia in Nelspruit.

Have your say.

chicko1983 not a bad choice. A South American coach would always attack and that is what we need. We are not a comfortable team sitting back. We need to go for the throat of our opposition.

We need attackive approach not a defensive mind set. Its too foreign and un Australian. Before everyone gets on their high horse I want to explain that Australians dont want to be on the back foot. We want to win not protect. It is they way we were raised. It is consistent as to why Verbeek didnt work as a coach. Bring on 2014!

Marcelo Bielsa (chiles head coach) has his team playing the best football in the competition if ask me. I think he should be the next Socceroos coach he also can develop youth.

these Kangaroos can play football -

I cant help but get that feeling, that if Wilkshire scored that easy goal against Ghana, wed be through. I lay no blame on Wilkshire for not qualifying, we lost it in the Germany game, but I really cant help but think, if only he scored that goal.

What about Ossie Ardiles? He put his hand up. Mixed results as a manager, but even Guus the great has blips on his CV.

Does anyone else find it a bit scary that the guy thats been appointed as the next assistant coach for the socceroos also has a reputation for playing a one forward system and anti football, even when he has numerous forwards at his disposal he only plays one at a time. Is this a sign that were going to get more of the same in the socceroos over the next few years ?

Whilst the attack at all costs doctrine has become the mantra of the day, a certain Mr Guus Hiddink stated one of his first tasks when he first took charge of the Socceroos was to teach them how not to loose... Apart from being able to score goals I would imagine part of this equation is defending. Perhaps not quite sitting back as far as we have at times but I imagine any coach worth his salt understands a balance is required.

ok... time for the post mortem:

blood the younger and faster players into the squad, (we're gonna need young fast players for the Asia Cup or we'll get killed at the back), select a coach with a bit more flair, (we know the dutch system works if you have superstars in your team, so that rules us out), we need to spend a little bit more money Frank to get a decnet coach... someone with a good track record and who is respected by all.... hurry up, the Asia Cup is only around the corner.

I think the Kiwi's are only paying Ricki Herbert about $11 an hour, made if we offer $15 an hour we can get him!! Thats good value and he even empties the bins and cleans the changerooms after the games.

I don't mind a Dutch coach, but I want one versatile enough to use more than the 4231 and 433 formation.

PS. In case anyone was wondering, yes they exist.

I'm ready for something other than the ongoing Dutch experiment. Perhaps a latin coach, there could be some good Italian/ Spanish / Portugese / Sth Americans on the market in the next month. This is also prime time for hiring, coaches will have the longest possible time to prepare a squad in their image for the next world cup.

I agree with Mr Lowy, and we should all be very proud of Australia's performance. And Pim has left us in good shape, having blooded many youngsters in the last two years and in this tournament as well.

Bring on the Asian Cup, where I hope we take a very young side, giving them high-pressure practise for the next round of World Cup qualifiers.

Yes, that may be so, but did you hear the one about the dog and the race, ie, "if the dog hadn't have stopped to shit, he would have won the race".

We could also say that if the Ghanain studs up tackle had have been red-carded, or if Timmy and Harry weren't red-carded, things may have been different too. It's a shame, but things aren't so grim, our future is bright.
