BRETT Holman, I owe you an apology. In fact, I reckon every Socceroos fan owes you an apology, but I'll put my hand up and speak on their behalf.

I'm sorry I ever doubted your undeniable ability. I'm sorry I focused so much on your negatives I overlooked your obvious strengths.

I'm sorry for hoping you wouldn't make the World Cup squad.

I'm sorry for ironically laughing when you scored the injury-time winner against New Zealand.

I'm sorry for finding it hilarious that some Socceroo fans had nick-named you Holminho.

I'm sorry for sweating on your mistakes, and taking joy in your failures.

It's my own fault that I couldn't appreciate you for what you are, a jack-in-the-box, who will never stop running, who will step up when the match is there to be won.

Just like you did against Serbia. And I promise I will never underestimate you again.

And I suppose I should apologise to Pim, who seems to be the only person in Australia who had faith in you, and could see you for what you really are.

But I just can't do it. I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive Pim for the Germany debacle.

But as for you Brett, you're more than just forgiven. You are my new favourite player.
