High-flying Bulls put top spot on line

26 Jun, 2010 04:00 AM

This weekend’s clash against Orange Waratahs will determine the Dubbo Bulls position as the top side in the Western Premier Soccer League competition.

Going into round eight the Bulls are currently ruling the roost notching up 38 goals with just eight scored against them.

Statistically they look stronger than the second placed Waratahs and last time the two sides met the Bulls dominated by three goals to nil.

But they will be taking nothing for granted according to assistant coach Craig Biles with this weekend’s game likely to set the benchmark for the remainder of their season.

“It is always a game that you mark on the calendar as the Waratahs are the measuring stick for where you’ve got to be in the competition,” he said.

“But in saying that we will be approaching them with the same attitude. We will just stick to what has been working for us.

“After the match we will then be able to look at what we’ve done wrong and what’s needed to be competitive in the semis.”

Whatever they’ve been doing so far has certainly been working for the Bulls, they knocked up 10 goals against the Canobolas Rangers last weekend and managed to keep them to zero.

“We have been executing our own plays very well so it is important we continue to do that and maintain a strong focus on our game not the oppositions,” Biles said.

“Many of our goals have been coming from a team effort, so at this stage I can confidently say that everybody is doing their job.”

It is not only in the first grade competition that the Waratahs match means crunch time for the Bulls.

The second grade grade clash should also prove to be a tight one with the Bulls currently leading the competition over a second placed Waratahs.

The Bulls certainly go into the game as the stronger side as they are yet to drop a game this season, the Waratahs have won four.

In the under-18s competition the Bulls are also leading the race and are likely to be too strong for a last placed Waratahs outfit who are yet to produce a win.
