I guess it is the same for Aus, is there a similar monitoring of players that may be able to declare for Aus?

Sort of, we got Neil Kilkenny by chance in 2006 thanks to Stan Lazaridis and most of the boys we know of leave here mid-teens to have a crack at Europe (a few went to Sth America a few years ago but haven't heard much from there since), so we know who they are in essence.

Only real loss I would say has been Christian Vieri, who was raised here and maybe the Croatian boys of Simunic, Didiluca and Seric but besides that, we know of most players in the system as such.

Without being officially in the 'loop' someone else here may have a better answer for you.

I'd hardly say Vieri was a loss. He was here for a few years as a kid when his dad was playing for Marconi. He was more interested in cricket than football when he was here anyway.

Fallon is a hack, good in the air and needs crosses to score...

Vicelich has been to Europe and done that, came home to start a family... rumour is he will be a nix player by the end of the week

Reid, well he is to nice a person to go to Arsenal... lets hope Blackburn snap him up.

Elliott wants to go back to the states, although he would be a good bet for HAL as well

and Smeltz : they asked him on tv whether his missus will let him leave the gold coast... can't remember what he said but it was a bloody good question. Rumours are Hadjuk Split.

Tommy Smith, will go back to Ipswich and hope the 2nd best Keano watched him play...

and as for Paston who knows, would be silly at his age to not make some coin

Herbert will be gone soon form the nix, perhaps Sven, or paul le guen etc may coach us, I mean all we do is parasite of Aussie right ;)

Looks like it's all happening for Reid:

"From Sky Sports UK

New Zealand defender Winston Reid is hoping for a chance to prove his talents in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old, who currently plays in the Danish league with FC Midtjylland, impressed in the All Whites' World Cup campaign which ended in the group stages, where they were unbeaten, claiming three draws.

Reid was instrumental for the Kiwis, scoring a last-minute equaliser against Slovakia in their opening game to claim a 1-1 draw and putting in excellent performances against 2006 champions Italy and Paraguay to help Ricki Herbert's team to third place.

Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce is rumoured to be eyeing a bid for Reid, where he could link up at the heart of defence with international team-mate Ryan Nelsen, who enjoyed an outstanding tournament.

Reid, who moved to Scandinavia at the age of 10, confessed that he was ready for a switch away from Denmark, with the South Africa tournament able to give him a chance to show what he could do.

"One of the reasons I decided to represent New Zealand at the World Cup was to attract more attention," Reid told bt.dk

"I feel ready to try something else than FC Midtjylland."

What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Kiwi's Cup Campaign Opens Doors?
SEVERAL All Whites could be set for transfers to top European clubs following New Zealand's unexpected success at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Have your say.

As per the roumer thread there is supposed intereast in Reid from Arsenal. there is a bit more in the news today including comments from Martin Keown, and the following paragraph in the paper today:

"Meanwhile, at All Whites level, all that can be discerned is that a London-based Premier League club has approached All Whites management for their opinion as their interest in 21-year-old Reid mounts."

Whether it goes anywhere or not is anpther thing but it is good tha the interest is there.

Go to a mid-table EPL team and play every third week like Emmo, Grella or Garcia?

Best playing week-in, week-out in Holland, mind you most of his appearances for AZ are currently off the bench. I would be very wary of how much gametime Holman would get at a bigger club.

Holmans current club not good enough? AZ Alkmaar is a sick club. Better by far then any lower to midtable EPL club.

The dutch league isn't that strong. Surely no competition for Bundesliga, Serie A, La Liga or EPL.

I think he'd be good for a move to Germany.

Also since this on the Kiwis

Reid played really well in games I saw.

Killen and Smeltz played pretty well and were far better than Fallon.

Elliot at 36 played really well. He would make a good addition to any HAL team lacking experience. Hope he goes into coaching for NZ could be the next Herbert and bring them to the WC 2038 or so.

Vicelich should be able to find a professional contract somewhere at least.

Great news for the kiwis if some of these moves happens.

Surely some of our boys will get picked up by better clubs based from their performances. eg Valeri.
