FIFA acknowledges problems with Jabulani ball

JOHANNESBURG (AP) -FIFA has finally acknowledged that there may be something wrong with the Jabulani World Cup ball, but won't act on the problem until after the tournament.

After numerous player complaints, FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke says: "We're not deaf. FIFA is not unreceptive about what has been said about the ball.''

Valcke tells a news conference Saturday that FIFA will discuss the matter with coaches and teams after the World Cup, then meet with manufacturer Adidas.

Many players have likened the Jabulani to a "supermarket ball,'' saying it is too unpredictable and flies through the air too easily.

"There are rules for size and weight. ... But the ball has to be perfect,'' Valcke says.

It's a bit bloody late. The damage has already been done. The best players in the world missing the goals by miles.
Endo's free kick was perfect & would have been the same with any ball, jabalani or otherwise.
Honda's free kick looked great but the keeper had it covered until the jabalani ball floated weird & moved in the air out of his reach.
Mark Bresciano quickly worked out the way to use it by deliberately bouncing his free kicks near the feet of the keeper. He has been the best free kick taker at the World Cup as far as I am concerned.
When one of the best free kick takers in the world, Ronaldo can barely even hit the target something is indeed rotten in Jo'burg.

Football viewers all over the world have been robbed watching players score fabulous goals that we can't score ourselves.

Hell, I already know how to blast the ball over the crossbar myself.

Its not just the shooting and floating in the air. This ball picks up pace when it hurts the turf after it has been lifted in the air. So many long passes just keep running away over the touch line.

ADIDAS defends it with science and scientists talking about aerodynamics and wind tunnels. But its footballers that play the game, not scientists. An unbelievably stupid decision by adidas not to field test it across a number of leagues and conditions.

Nor did the Argentinean players when they used it in their league this season.

Thing is most of the Argentina players play in Europe so never used the Jabulani during their season yet have no problem dealing with it.

Players now are finally figuring out if you want it shoot from distance hit through the ball not get under it.

no matter if the ball is good or not its different, thus the players arent used to it.

i think using a new ball for the world cup is retarded. use the same ball they have been using for years, and change after. the world cup would be a better spectacle and event then with more goals and better passing.
