Hughes in Al Ahli talks

Mark Hughes is in talks to become the new manager of Middle Eastern giants Al Ahli, skysports.com understands.

The Dubai-based club are looking to appointment a high-profile manager to help them become a world force.

They have been linked with multi-million pound moves for the likes of Harry Redknapp and Marcello Lippi.

They also tried for Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce, but Hughes has now emerged as the favourite for the role.

Skysports.com understands that Hughes, along with his backroom team including Mark Bowen, have flown to Dubai to hold talks with the club owned by the Crown Prince of Dubai - Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Al Maktoum.

Hughes has been out of work since leaving Manchester City last season and has been strongly linked with a move to Fulham should Roy Hodgson, as expected, take charge of Liverpool.

But now the former Wales boss is in talks with Ahli, who have a huge amount of money behind them, highlighted by the signing of Italian legend Fabio Cannavaro earlier this summer.
