Uruguay’s Tabarez praises South Korean football

Uruguay boss Oscar Tabarez has heaped praise on the South Korean football team following the two nations’ clash in the World Cup Round of 16.

The South American team came out on top 2-1 in wet conditions to eliminate the Asians from the tournament but Tabarez thought the performance of Huh Jung-Moo’s men was outstanding.

"The Korean team performed superbly. They had no goddess of luck beside it this time. On the other hand, we were very lucky. This is football. This is suitable to the World Cup," Tabarez said. "Korean players have progressed much. Korea is the top team in Asia.”

Defender Diego Godin echoed Tabarez’s sentiments, saying Korea were a tough team to come up against.

“Korea did well. We were too defensive. We failed to dominate in the middle of the field," he added.

Uruguay will now meet Ghana in the World Cup quarter-finals on Friday.
