Davster, I knew Africa only got 5 spots, but I was just saying, there are 6 African countries present and none of them made it out of the group besides Ghana. They are overrated and don't deserve 5 spots. I say 4 spots only and give the extra spot to the South Americans. The other confederations to keep their spots.

AFC recorded the 3rd most points per teams at this world cup ahead of CAF and CONCACAF although i dont think any of the allocations need to be changed.

Giving CONMEBOL even more spots would be a farce. Once you have over half a confederation qualifying for a tournament, it just becomes a joke. Not to mention the fact that you can't suggest changing the quota based on 1 world cup. CONMEBOL countries have a history of performing well outside of European. But when World Cups are held in Europe, it's a completely different story and vice versa with European teams.

And Portugal only made it to the second round by the virtue of 1 good win so what's your point.

Davestar mate your the idiot, seriously burst out of ur little bubble you live in.

There are 4.5 places allocated to South America & 4.5 to asia - THE SAME yet, such a difference in quality. In terms of market and economic appeal it is in the best interest to have asia have as many spots as them. But the world cup is about the cream of the talent coming together - therefore ur limiting the world to see the best players.

Anyways I am not suggesting to take away from Asia, as obviously we are in Asia and there is potential , perhaps take that half spot or spot away from Europe or Africa, The europeans have an unbelievable number of teams, yet they have shown many teams are not upto standard.

Pretty close one by the sounds of it. Japan have actually done a lot better in the finals then in in their lead up, which was shocking, i think after their shambles, everyone was expecting a group stage knockout.

Yet there are 3 World Champions in there, playing for 4 spots. And other quality countries like Paraguay, Chile and Colombia.....

South American qualification is the toughest, because everyone is all so even. All South Americans I know, have been wanting an extra spot for the South American countires for years now.

Ok 1st off Africa only has 5 sports not 6 South Africa were hosts.

2nd Asia didnt show they were 3rd strongest North America, Central and the Carrbian prob showed they are the 3rd strongest confederation. Out of 3 teams 2 made it out of the Group stage USA played better then Ghana by a mile just couldnt finish and Mexico had a bullshit goal allow against them.

Asia however showed that its better then Africa in my opinion i've all felt Africa was overated and this WC has shown that they are by a mile.

It doesnt matter because the WC sport won change at all

why would South America get another spot? are you that dumb? Brazil are hosting the next world cup if they got another spot they would have 7 teams in 2014.

Asia wont get another spot as long as the weaker nations like North Korea keep getting pumped 7-0 and Saudie got pumped last world cup 8-0.

they deserve another spot despite only have ten teams. Look at the quality, quarter finals and only one side eliminated (Chile) and that was by another South American team.

If any confederation should have one spot taken away it should be Africa. Only one out of six African countries got through to the next stage.

i think asia demonstrated they are the 3rd strongest confederation behind south america and europe in this tournament. aussies out on goal difference and we had more asian teams than african teams in the 2nd round, the one african team being the one that got us on goal difference. lucky bastards!

Tense finish..many Japs in tears, shows the emotion of the game, touches people like no other, so much passion but our game can be cruel!

I think this world cup will be remembered as having been dominated by South Americans, They should gain an extra cup spot

What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Paraguay's Spot In The Last Eight?
PARAGUAY progressed through to the quarter-finals of the World Cup for the first time in their history after beating Japan 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out after a goalless stalemate.

Have your say.
